Pham Dang Khuong - musician of vibrant melodies
Born in 1957 in Quang Ngai , musician Pham Dang Khuong is a familiar face in the music scene of Ho Chi Minh City. Since 1977, when he was a student of the Mathematics Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, he attended a songwriting class at the Youth Cultural House, where he has been attached throughout his career, from a music-loving teacher to Deputy Director of the Youth Cultural House before retiring in 2017.
He once shared in an interview: "I grew up in this city. On any front, the people of Ho Chi Minh City are pioneers, creative and full of humanity. I want to convey that pride through each melody."
For him, Saigon – Ho Chi Minh City is not only a place to live but also an endless source of inspiration. In the creative movement “A Country Full of Joy” of the Lao Dong Newspaper, he conveyed that pride through two songs, with lyrics imbued with nostalgia and the desire to build a youthful, modern city from Nguyen Hue Flower Street to Phu My Hung – South Saigon.
"The Road to School" - the song of many generations
The song "The Road to School", composed in 1984, is one of his most famous works. From the memory of an afternoon returning to his old school, he wrote a gentle, pure melody, recalling student memories. To this day, the song still resonates every school year, becoming a part of the memories of many generations of students.
He is also the author of many popular songs such as "Dream Sky," "Like an Unintentional Wind," and "Forever Twenty" - a song inspired by the diary of martyr Nguyen Van Thac, which won an award from the Vietnam Musicians Association in 2005.

"Hong Bang, motherland of Van Lang" - a spiritual heritage full of passion
In 2024, before falling seriously ill, he organized the launch of the music collection "Hong Bang Motherland Van Lang" at the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Cultural House. The project includes 50 historical music songs, written about Vietnamese history from the Hong Bang period to the Duy Tan movement, performed by many young singers such as Nha Truc, Kim Duyen, Hanh Nguyen, Trong Thuong...
The young audience that day clapped their hands in harmony with each melody, as if they were traveling back in time with him to the origins of the nation.
He once emotionally shared: "I want to use music to help young people remember each street name and each historical figure. Each street in Saigon is named after a hero, a person who has contributed to the country, and music is a way for them to live again in the Vietnamese consciousness."
