In the hot summer, many people look for drinks that can cool down, purify the body and improve health. One of the recipes that is currently popular with many families is kumquat juice with honey - a rustic drink but rich in nutritional value and medicinal properties.

Kumquat – “medicine” in the home garden

Kumquat (also known as kumquat skin, tangerine peel) has a characteristic sweet and sour taste, pleasant aroma and usually ripens in the summer. According to traditional medicine, this fruit has the effect of dispelling cold, reducing phlegm, treating coughs, reducing colds and stimulating digestion.

When combined with pure honey – a “natural antibiotic” rich in enzymes and antioxidants – kumquat juice not only has an attractive flavor but also helps increase resistance, soothe the throat, reduce dryness and is good for the respiratory system.

Ingredients to prepare

Ripe kumquat: 500g

Pure honey: 200ml

Rock sugar: 100g (depending on taste)

Salt: 1/2 teaspoon

Filtered water: 1 liter

Mint leaves, ice cubes (optional)

How to make kumquat juice with honey

Step 1: Prepare ingredients

– Wash kumquats and drain.

– Use your hands to gently squeeze each fruit to separate the shell and seeds, taking only the flesh. You can keep the shell if you want the water to have a distinctive aroma and add medicinal properties.

– Soak the fruit flesh with a little salt for 10 minutes, then rinse to reduce the astringency.

Step 2: Cook the mixture

– Put the fruit flesh into the pot, add rock sugar and filtered water. Boil over low heat for about 15-20 minutes until the kumquat is soft and the water is dark yellow.

– Turn off the stove, let it cool down and then filter to get the juice.

Step 3: Finishing

– When the water has cooled, add honey and stir well. Do not add honey while the water is still hot to avoid losing nutrients.

– Can be stored in a glass bottle, refrigerated and used within 2-3 days.

Directions: Drink cold with ice or dilute with warm water depending on the weather. You can add a few mint leaves for a refreshing flavor.
