Accordingly, in 2025, due to the influence of ENSO (the phenomenon of abnormal warming of the surface sea water - El Nino and the phenomenon of abnormal cooling of the surface sea water - La Nina) in a neutral state combined with the impact of climate change, the phenomenon of local heavy rain with very high intensity (over 100mm/hour) continues to be likely to appear frequently during the rainy season.
In order for ministries, branches and localities to proactively direct and deploy timely and effective response work to ensure people's safety and minimize property damage, the Department of Hydrometeorology has informed about the hydrometeorological situation in the coming time.
Specifically, from May 22-25, the Northern regions, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An are likely to experience widespread heavy rain, with rainfall ranging from 100 - 250mm, with some places over 350mm; there may be localized heavy rain (over 100mm in 3 hours). Heavy rain is at high risk of causing flooding in low-lying areas, urban areas, industrial zones; flash floods on small rivers and streams and landslides in steep areas.
Along with that, on the upper reaches of Thao River, Lo River and some small rivers in the North, Thanh Hoa is likely to experience a flood with a common flood amplitude of 2-5m.
In order to forecast and warn to serve the work of directing, operating, preventing and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, the Department of Hydrometeorology respectfully requests ministries and localities to pay attention to directing agencies in command of natural disaster prevention and control to synthesize and send detailed information on people's activities, economy, society, sensitive works that are likely to be affected by natural disasters in the provinces to the Department of Hydrometeorology for timely forecasting and warning to support the work of directing, operating and preventing natural disasters.
In addition to the forecast bulletins and natural disaster warnings issued periodically according to regulations, to monitor real-time forecast information and warnings of thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, flash floods, and landslides, access the warning systems of the Department of Hydrometeorology at: http://hymetnet.gov.vn/ and http://luquetsatlo.nchmf.gov.vn/ to update information.
The Department of Hydrometeorology respectfully informs ministries and localities to proactively direct and deploy timely and effective response work to ensure the safety of people's lives.
Since the beginning of May, although the peak of the rainy season has not yet been reached, many dangerous weather patterns have appeared nationwide such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and hail, in which some regions such as the North, Central Highlands, and South have recorded thunderstorms and localized heavy rains with common rainfall from 100 - 150mm, in some places over 200mm.
