Once mistaken for a man, weak in love

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên20/07/2023

Currently, the best athlete in the history of Vietnamese swimming has decided to stop competing at the highest level and leave the swimming team, returning to normal life. If before, Anh Vien chose success over happiness, now, at adulthood, she only wants to be with the people she loves, teaching swimming to children. "When I was an athlete, my joy was achievement, I broke my own record. If I am no longer an athlete, my joy is being able to meet children, having fun in the underwater environment and especially being with my loved ones," she shared.

Besides, during this time, the former athlete also often shares her life on social networks, she said: "At first, I was shy when people paid a lot of attention to me, but after realizing that I needed to spread something to give children more motivation to swim, I felt that I should try to overcome my fear."

In response to compliments about her beauty after retiring, the 1996-born swimmer felt shy because during training and competition, her face was quite tense, but now she is much more relaxed. Notably, in response to some comments that she is more feminine, Anh Vien also confided: "The femininity of an athlete is not expressed by wearing lipstick or makeup, but through the way she competes. It is natural in her, so when she shows it, people will feel it. Femininity is still in her, not lost."

Also on the show, Anh Vien revealed that she was once mistaken for a man because of her muscular body after training and competing in high-level competitions, which made her feel confident about her appearance. However, over time, after training in other countries, the female athlete has overcome prejudices about her appearance. "If you look closely, you will see that the muscle lines or body of a female athlete will be beautiful in its own way. For me, when I train, having a little more muscle will make me look more energetic and dynamic," said the former swimmer.

When asked by host Nguyen Khac Ngan Vi about her love life, Anh Vien also revealed that contrary to work, in relationships or friends, she is a weak person. "From two perspectives: fighting in love and fighting on the green track, when competing, I can define my strength, know what I need to do, but in love, Anh Vien will... cry more".

In addition, she also frankly expressed her opinion when there was an opinion that people who focus on muscle development are almost not developed in terms of education.

The 60-minute conversation between host Nguyen Khac Ngan Vi and former athlete Nguyen Thi Anh Vien at Story VI will be broadcast at 7:30 p.m. on July 21 on Thanh Nien Newspaper's platforms.
