Thai Nguyen City Youth Volunteers to Build a Civilized Urban Area

Thai Nguyen City Youth Union is managing 83 affiliated youth union organizations with more than 21,400 members. This force is the "extended arm" of the city in activities related to urban civilization construction. In 2024 alone, youth union chapters at all levels mobilized over 65,000 youth union members to participate in youth projects and tasks, focusing on environmental protection activities, applying technology to waste management and raising public awareness.

From socialized sources and voluntary contributions, the City Youth Union has implemented many valuable projects such as: handing over 11 integrated gymnasiums in wards and communes; installing 6 security camera systems in densely populated areas; planting more than 24,000 new trees... The total cost of the projects is estimated at over 300 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Quan, Secretary of Thai Nguyen City Youth Union, shared: In order to build a civilized urban area, in recent times, the City Youth Union has focused on practical activities, with the goal of changing the awareness of the whole community, promoting the creativity and collective strength of young people. One of the typical activities is the volunteer Saturday and green Sunday movements, organized monthly in wards and communes.

In 2024 alone, the City Youth Union organized 8 simultaneous campaigns with the participation of thousands of members. The activities were organized mainly to support people in cleaning up after storms; repairing damaged facilities due to the impact of storm No. 3; cleaning streets, unclogging sewers; giving gifts to families with preferential policies, children affected by natural disasters, etc.

Not only stopping at the above activities, the city's youth also actively spread the green lifestyle. The "Exchange trash for gifts" campaign launched by the City Youth Union in 2024 attracted nearly 9,000 members to participate, collecting about 2 tons of plastic waste.

Gifts such as cloth bags, green trees, glass water bottles... are all environmentally friendly items, mobilized from sponsors and businesses, and have positive contributions from grassroots union members. The campaign not only creates a strong communication effect but also contributes to forming the habit of sorting waste and limiting single-use plastic items in the community.

In Tuc Duyen ward, where there used to be many polluted areas, local youth union members have proactively implemented spontaneous waste treatment solutions. Mr. Doan Dinh Khanh, Secretary of the ward Youth Union, said: On average, every two months, youth union members participate in general cleaning in areas with spontaneous garbage dumps on the way to Thai Nguyen High School for the Gifted or along the Cau River.

Along with that, the Ward Youth Union also organizes propaganda activities, mobilizing people not to litter and coordinates with the authorities to handle violations (if any).

Mr. Tran Van Minh (70 years old, in Tuc Duyen ward), living near Cau river, commented: Thanks to the movements of young people, the river is getting cleaner. Previously, the amount of garbage floating around has decreased significantly.

Along with environmental protection, to build a civilized urban area, the city's youth are also a pioneer in digital transformation. The "Youth Volunteers for Digital Transformation" team has been established and maintained in 32 communes and wards. The team's mission is to support people in installing electronic payment applications, instructing them on how to use online public services, digitizing historical sites using QR codes, etc.

In addition, the City Youth Union also coordinated with relevant agencies to organize traffic safety and drug prevention propaganda for students; deployed forums "Building beautiful friendships - Say no to school violence" at 100% of schools in the area, attracting more than 10,000 students, parents and teachers to participate.

In 2025, Thai Nguyen City Youth Union aims to promote the movements "Creative Youth", "Youth join hands to build new countryside", and replicate models such as: "Flower route", "Community gym area", "School bookcase", "Street without plastic waste"...
