Vietnam Youth Union of Long An province and Cambodian Youth Union of Svay Rieng province signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation for the period 2024-2029.
Bonding friendship
Long An shares a national border with Svay Rieng and Prey Veng provinces (Kingdom of Cambodia). Over the past time, the traditional close relationship, solidarity and friendship between Long An province and Svay Rieng province has been maintained and developed in many fields. Youths of the two provinces have carried out many meaningful and effective activities together.
Since 2017, volunteer programs, medical examination and treatment, free medicine distribution, donation of youth friendship houses, learning tools, transfer of science and technology, sharing of good models and new ways to help youth develop the economy , giving bicycles to students in difficult circumstances, supporting and helping each other overcome the Covid-19 pandemic, cultural and artistic exchange activities, physical education and sports, etc. have been continuously carried out by the two provinces. Thereby, the youth of the two provinces are more closely connected, contributing to fostering the close relationship between the two peoples.
Director of Long Thanh Aquatic Cooperative (Thu Thua district) - Cao Phu Khanh gave frogs and guided farming techniques to young people from Cambodia.
In 2022, the Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union (VYU) of Long An province coordinated with the Cambodian Youth Federation of Svay Rieng province to organize volunteer activities and international exchanges in Svay Chrum district, Svay Rieng province. Here, the Delegation donated 1 ton of rice and 1 friendship house to the Cambodian Youth Federation of Svay Rieng province. At the same time, the Delegation presented 300 medical examinations and 300 gifts to people in difficult circumstances; donated 5,000 frogs to the Youth Union of Svay Chrum district; donated 1,500 notebooks and 10 bicycles to students in difficult circumstances studying at Kandal Phum Primary School.
In addition, every year, the Provincial Youth Union coordinates with the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee to organize conferences to disseminate international integration skills, foreign information and organize International Youth Integration Day. The Youth Unions of border districts and Kien Tuong town regularly coordinate to organize cultural, artistic and sports exchange activities, to disseminate policies and contents of agreements between Long An and the two provinces of Svay Rieng and Prey Veng.
The Vietnam Youth Union of Long An province donated a Friendship house worth 50 million VND, helping Roth Theary (Chombok Kong hamlet, Tasuos commune, Svay Chrum district) have a new house and study with peace of mind.
Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, President of the Provincial Youth Union - Le Thi Hong Ket said that the remote areas of the two provinces of Svay Rieng and Prey Veng still have many difficult circumstances. Therefore, the volunteer programs are extremely meaningful, partly sharing with the people of the neighboring country. The above activities contribute to educating members and youth about the friendly relationship and good traditions between Vietnam and the Kingdom of Cambodia; thereby, enhancing mutual understanding between youth of the two countries through exchange activities, sightseeing, learning about the history, culture, economic and political situation of each country; promoting the spirit of vanguard and volunteerism of young people in propaganda and education work for union members and youth about national border sovereignty, sea and islands.
To promote and strengthen this relationship, in 2024, the Provincial Youth Union boldly proposed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Provincial Youth Union and the Cambodian Youth Federation of Svay Rieng Province for the period 2024-2029.
Long An youth learn about culture and cuisine in Korea
According to the signed minutes, the cooperation activities include propaganda and education for the youth of the two provinces about the friendship between Vietnam - Cambodia, Cambodia - Vietnam in the process of national liberation struggle and national construction in each country. Organizing for the youth of the two provinces to exchange, learn experiences and cooperate in developing economic types in all fields; exchanging and sharing experiences in supporting youth in starting and establishing businesses; expanding exchange programs, creating conditions for the youth of the two twinned provinces, creating a relationship of solidarity for friendship, peace, respect for sovereignty, independence and development.

The Memorandum of Understanding is an important basis for the two organizations in the two countries to continue to strengthen cooperation, exchange experiences in youth work, organize exchange activities, study, research, sports, culture, and tourism between youth of the two provinces. This is also an opportunity for youth of both sides to study together, share experiences, contribute to the socio-economic development of each locality; at the same time, contribute to strengthening the friendly and cooperative relationship between the people of Vietnam and Cambodia.
In the 2019-2024 term, the Provincial Youth Union and the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee coordinated to organize 3 cultural exchange activities between Long An Province Youth Union and Chungcheongnam Province Youth Union (Korea); organized 5 exchange activities associated with social security support activities in Svay Rieng Province and Prey Veng Province of Cambodia with a total value of more than 500 million VND. |
Cultural and culinary exchange
Since 2005, Long An Province and Chungcheongnam Province (South Korea) have established a close cooperative relationship. After nearly two decades, this relationship has been increasingly consolidated and expanded in many fields, from culture, education to economy. In particular, culinary cultural exchanges between youth of the two provinces have significantly contributed to enhancing mutual understanding.
Students, university students, union members, and youth from Long An and Chungcheongnam (Korea) participate in the experience of making banh tet and learning about Vietnamese cuisine.
In 2024, Long An welcomed 16 young Koreans to participate in a cultural exchange program. Here, they experienced Vietnamese cultural characteristics such as wrapping traditional banh tet and cooking national dishes together. These activities left a deep impression on the hearts of young Koreans.
A delegation of outstanding officials, students and pupils from Long An province also visited and had a cultural exchange in Chungcheongnam province, South Korea. During this trip, they participated in many interesting activities, explored Korean culture and cooked typical dishes of the two countries together.
Nguyen Gia Han, a student at Nguyen Trung Truc High School - Ben Luc (Ben Luc district), excitedly shared: "During the 6 days of reception and exchange, my Korean friends and I had memorable experiences. Especially, when enjoying Vietnamese cuisine, they were delighted and kept giving "likes". The most memorable moment was when we wrapped banh tet together. They were excited about a traditional Vietnamese dish. From choosing ingredients, wrapping the cake to enjoying the results together, I felt extremely proud of the tradition of my nation. I believe that activities like this will contribute to strengthening the friendship between the two nations".
Students, youth union members, and youth from Long An and Chungcheongnam (Korea) enjoy the experience of making pancakes.
In particular, to promote Vietnamese-Korean culinary cultural exchange, in 2022, the Provincial Youth Union and the Chungcheongnam Provincial Youth Training Center successfully organized the 3-month online international exchange program "Culinary Tourism" (from July to September).
Through 7 exciting online exchanges, students from both countries explored and practiced cooking typical dishes of each country. Young people from Long An enthusiastically introduced and instructed their Korean friends on how to make bread, broken rice, pancakes and mixed rice paper. In return, young people from Chungcheongnam shared their secrets to making delicious rice rolls (kimbap), mixed rice (bibimbap), spicy rice cakes (teokbokki) and cold noodles.
Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Chairman of the Provincial Vietnamese Student Association - Pham Van Hau said: Long An Youth continues to maintain exchange activities between volunteer youth from Long An (Vietnam) - Chungcheongnam (Korea). Together, exploring and enjoying typical dishes of Vietnam and Korea not only helps young people better understand the diverse culinary culture of the two countries but also acts as a "bridge" to promote Vietnamese cuisine to international friends. Thereby, the friendship between the youth of the two provinces is increasingly tightened, contributing to building a sustainable cooperative relationship between the two localities./.
