(HBĐT) - The Monument of Hero Cu Chinh Lan in Binh Thanh Commune (Cao Phong) is a "red address" to educate the young generation about revolutionary traditions. This is also a historical site in the Hoa Binh Lake tour chain along the Binh Thanh - Thung Nai route.

Youth Union members of Binh Thanh commune (Cao Phong) cleaned up and created a beautiful landscape at the Cu Chinh Lan Hero Monument.
Heroic martyr Cu Chinh Lan (real name Cu Van Mau), was born in 1930 in a poor peasant family in Quynh Doi village, Quynh Luu district, Nghe An province. In 1946, the French army returned to invade our country, Cu Chinh Lan, then only 16 years old, applied to join the National Guard, volunteering to fight the enemy. In November 1951, the French colonialists expanded their attack to our free zone in Hoa Binh with the plot to reconnect the "East-West corridor" to cut off our communication between Viet Bac and Zone 3 and Zone 4 to regain the initiative on the main battlefield. In Hoa Binh, they carried out the plot to establish an "autonomous Muong region" to sabotage national unity. Faced with that situation, the Party Central Committee directed the fight against the enemy on both fronts of Hoa Binh and the Northern Delta. On November 24, 1951, the General Military Commission decided to launch the Hoa Binh campaign.
In the battle on December 13, 1951, when the French troops entered the battlefield, the whole unit opened fire fiercely, annihilating an enemy company. When preparing to retreat, enemy tanks came to reinforce and fired fiercely at our formation, blocking the retreat and causing many casualties. Cu Chinh Lan quickly jumped onto the tank, put his submachine gun in the gap on the tank's turret and pulled the trigger, but unfortunately the submachine gun jammed, the tank continued to run and fire. He shouted to his teammates to gather grenades for him, then continued to jump onto the tank, pulled the lid and threw the grenade into the tank. The enemy picked up the grenade and threw it back, and the tank driver changed direction.
The opportunity to destroy the enemy tank was right before his eyes, Cu Chinh Lan boldly opened the grenade pin, waited for the cigarette smoke to come out for a few seconds before throwing it into the cockpit. The grenade exploded, the enemies in the tank died on top of each other. The tank, marked "B2885498 USA", stopped right there, the battle ended in victory. The glorious victory at Giang Mo slope with the heroic spirit of Hero Cu Chinh Lan and the soldiers of Battalion 353, Regiment 66 destroyed the tanks of the French invaders equipped by the US imperialists, opening the movement to fight the enemy's modern combat tanks with conventional weapons.
On December 29, 1951, while participating in a fierce battle on Route 6, Luong Son - Hoa Binh section. Although seriously injured, Cu Chinh Lan did not leave the battlefield, commanding the squad to continuously break through layers of barbed wire fences into enemy bunkers, clearing the way for his teammates to destroy the enemy. When the enemy's Co To post was completely destroyed by our army, he breathed his last. He died at the age of 21. On May 19, 1952, at the first National Emulation Congress, martyr Cu Chinh Lan was one of the first 7 people nationwide to be posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forcesby the President .
To commemorate the feat of Hero Cu Chinh Lan, in 1993, the Ministry of Culture and Information issued a decision to recognize the site marking Cu Chinh Lan's feat of destroying French tanks as a national historical revolutionary relic. In 1994, construction of the relic site began, erecting the Tank Destroyer Hero Monument. The project was built on a total area of 3,638 m2, in which the statue and pedestal were crafted from Thanh Hoa green stone.
Joining the union members and youth in the commune to clean up and offer incense at the Cu Chinh Lan Hero Monument, comrade Le Anh Hong, Secretary of the Binh Thanh Commune Youth Union, said: The construction of the monument further affirms the pride of the Party Committee, the government and the people of all ethnic groups in the province and is a place to educate the tradition for the young generation, striving and training to become the masters of building the homeland and the country. Every year, the commune coordinates with schools to organize for students to go to the relic site to clean up and listen to the review of revolutionary historical traditions. In addition, during each military recruitment period, before the new recruits leave for military service, they come to offer incense and review the tradition, helping them to have the will, strive in training, and excellently complete the assigned tasks. The Cu Chinh Lan Hero Monument is also part of the Hoa Binh Lake tourist tour with local tourist attractions, an attractive destination, attracting domestic and foreign tourists when coming to Hoa Binh.
