5:00 p.m. today, July 28, is the deadline for candidates to register and adjust their admission wishes on the Ministry of Education and Training's general admission system.
In the context of many admission methods being applied at the same time (no more early admission), if the nature of the floor score - standard score is misunderstood, candidates will be at a disadvantage, even losing their "ticket" to university.
Many "hot" industries have decreased sharply.
To date, more than 200 universities nationwide have announced the minimum scores for the method of using the results of the 2025 high school graduation exam, ranging from 12 to 25 points. Notably, many "hot" majors with extremely high admission scores in previous admission seasons such as information technology, data science , artificial intelligence... have all reduced their minimum scores this year, with some majors even reducing by up to 6 points compared to 2024.
At the University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University), the admission threshold based on the 2025 high school graduation exam results ranges from 16 to 24 points (including bonus points and priority points). The two majors with the highest threshold scores are semiconductor technology and microchip design, both at 24 points. However, most of the remaining majors have reduced their threshold scores by 0.5 to 6 points.
Specifically, the data science major, which had a minimum score of 24 points last year, now has only 18 points. Majors such as artificial intelligence, computer and information technology, computer science (advanced program), and information technology (enhanced English) also have their minimum score reduced to 20 points, a decrease of 4 points.
At Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, the minimum score for this year's high school graduation exam results is 16 points or higher, applicable to all majors (except for the pedagogical group). Compared to 2024 (the minimum score is from 16-22), the university's minimum score this year has decreased significantly. The veterinary major this year has decreased by 6 points compared to last year.
The minimum score for the 2025 high school graduation exam results of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education is from 15 to 21.85 points, of which the microchip design engineering major has the highest minimum score, from 20.1 to 21.85 points depending on the combination.
Hit 3 year low
In the 2025 admission season, the University of Finance and Marketing announced the minimum score for the high school graduation exam results to be 15 points for all majors, excluding priority points. In particular, the economic law major requires candidates to achieve a minimum score of 6 points in math, or math/literature if both are in the admission group. Compared to 2024, the school's minimum score has decreased by 1-4 points, marking the lowest level in the past three years.
The University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) also adjusted the minimum score for the 2025 high school graduation exam compared to the previously announced score (22.5 - 24 points). The minimum score for all admission combinations and majors of the school is 22 points (excluding bonus points and priority points).
The floor score of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy also decreased by 2 points compared to the 2024 admission season. The school determined three floor thresholds, in which the medical and dental majors have the highest score of 22 points; the 19-point level has two majors: traditional medicine and pharmacy; all other majors have the same level of 17 points.
At Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, this year's floor score decreased slightly by 1 point compared to last year. The majors (except pharmacy and law) have a floor score of 18 points for the general program and 17 points for the English-enhanced program. The pharmacy major alone applies a floor score of 19 points according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) announced that the minimum admission score based on the 2025 high school exam score ranges from 18 to 20 points. The majors with the highest minimum scores continue to be in the "hot" group such as English, international relations, psychology, Japanese studies, Korean studies, journalism, multimedia communications, tourism and travel services management. The university's minimum score is lower than the 18.5 to 21 points last year.
Notably, Foreign Trade University, whose admission scores are always among the highest in the country, has also made a downward adjustment this year. The minimum score for admission based on the 2025 high school graduation exam scores is 24 points for the A00 group (math - physics - chemistry) and 23 points for the remaining groups, a slight decrease of 1 point compared to last year when all groups had a minimum score of 24 points.

What will the benchmark be?
Meanwhile, the floor score at Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics remains stable compared to last year. With the current registration status, the school predicts that the standard score will tend to fluctuate up/down within 1 point depending on the training program.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Khoi - Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, said that the Ministry of Education and Training's adjustment of the 2025 floor score for the group of health majors with practice certificates to decrease by 2 points compared to 2024 is appropriate in terms of the practical results of the 2025 high school graduation exam, in which the score range of the B00 combination (math - chemistry - biology) decreased sharply. The reduction of the floor score of the medical school shows flexibility in the context of this year's exam score range being somewhat lower, especially in math, English and natural science subjects.
"It is predicted that the school's benchmark scores this year may decrease in the fields of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, etc., but will not fluctuate much. Candidates should note that the floor score is only the threshold score to qualify for admission, not the admission score, so they need to think carefully when registering their admission wishes. Candidates need to refer to the previous year's benchmark scores to set appropriate wishes, with more chances of admission," Mr. Khoi noted.
Experts also said that with the average score of this year's high school exam, it is understandable that many schools have reduced their floor scores. However, the floor score is only the minimum admission threshold, not synonymous with the possibility of admission.
MSc. Le Van Hien, head of the training department at Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, said that the benchmark depends on the number of applications and the quality of candidates applying for each major and each school. If a major has many good candidates applying even though the minimum score is low, the benchmark can still be very high. Therefore, it is necessary to refer to the benchmark scores of previous years and evaluate the level of competition of each major to have a safe and strategic choice.
From top 25 to bottom 12 points
So far, among the schools that have announced the floor scores, Saigon University and the Diplomatic Academy are leading in the floor scores for the 2025 high school graduation exam, both setting the highest score at 25 points (on a 30-point scale). At Saigon University, the floor scores range from 17 to 25 points, in which the two majors with the highest scores include history pedagogy and geography pedagogy, combination C00 (literature - history - geography).
The Diplomatic Academy has two minimum scores of 22 and 25 points, of which only the C00 combination (literature - history - geography) has 25 points for some majors such as international relations, international communications and international law.
On the other hand, many non-public and local schools announced quite low admission scores, from 12 to 15 points. Of which, Hung Vuong University, Ho Chi Minh City has the lowest admission score of 12 points (the admission score is 15 points for academic records and the admission score for Ho Chi Minh City National University is 560 points).
Candidates should carefully study the standard scores of each year.
Currently, many candidates and parents are confused about the information on converting scores according to the percentiles announced by universities. MSc. Truong Thi Ngoc Bich, Director of the Information and Communication Center of the University of Economics and Finance, Ho Chi Minh City, advises candidates not to worry too much about percentiles, because this technical issue is the job of the universities. Instead, candidates need to carefully research information about the floor scores and standard scores of the years to calculate the arrangement that suits their abilities and interests.
