EUR/USD world exchange rate today 5/9/2025
During the European trading session, the EUR/USD exchange rate was at 1.1282. The main reason was that the US dollar (USD) increased slightly after the US Federal Reserve (Fed) announced that it would continue to keep interest rates unchanged and had no plans to cut them immediately.
This is the third consecutive time the Fed has maintained interest rates in the range of 4.25% - 4.5%, causing the USD to maintain its strength and pushing the DXY index close to the 100.00 threshold.
Although the euro (EUR) has weakened slightly against the USD, it has maintained its position against many other currencies. However, analysts say that the EUR's potential for appreciation will be limited as the European Central Bank (ECB) is expected to continue easing monetary policy.
Many traders believe the ECB will cut interest rates at its meeting in June. ECB officials have also expressed concerns about the region's economic outlook, but remain confident that inflation will return to its 2% target by the end of the year.
Against this backdrop, trade tensions between Europe and the US are rising. The European Commission has just published a consultation paper to prepare countermeasures if trade talks with the US fail. These measures could affect up to €95 billion worth of US imports.
According to EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic, further preparations will be announced, including balancing measures and what to bring up in negotiations with the US.
However, he also stressed that the top priority remains negotiations, but Europe will not accept any unfavorable deal.
