The USD/JPY pair is on track to end the week on a positive note, holding above 143.00. The pair rallied sharply on Friday, hitting 143.96 as the US dollar continued to rally.
The bullish momentum comes from expectations that US President Donald Trump is close to reaching trade deals with several major partners.
During North American trading hours, President Trump told reporters before leaving Rome to attend Pope Francis' funeral that trade deals were going well and the US administration was close to reaching an agreement with Japan, according to Reuters.
However, the US-China trade relationship has been complicated by conflicting statements. China has denied any negotiations with the US, while President Trump has confirmed that Chinese President Xi Jinping called him, according to an interview with Time Magazine. Trump stressed that he did not see the call as a sign of weakness from China.
Later, during European trading hours, a spokesperson from the Chinese embassy continued to insist that there were no ongoing consultations or negotiations regarding tariffs between the two countries.
In Japan, new data showed that Tokyo's consumer price index (CPI) rose more than expected in April, bolstering expectations that the Bank of Japan (BoJ) will continue its interest rate hike path. Tokyo's core CPI, which excludes fresh food prices, rose 3.4% year-on-year, beating forecasts of 3.2% and up from 2.4% in the previous period.
In the domestic market, at the beginning of the trading session on April 26, 2025, the State Bank announced the central exchange rate of the Vietnamese Dong against the USD at 24,963 VND.
The reference exchange rate at the State Bank's transaction office increased slightly, currently at: 23,765 VND - 26,161 VND.
In terms of buying, OCB is currently the bank with the highest cash buying price at 179.39 VND/JPY, while the highest transfer buying price also belongs to OCB at 180.89 VND/JPY.
On the other hand, VIB is the bank listing the lowest buying price, with 167.74 VND/JPY for cash and 169.14 VND/JPY for transfer.
On the selling side, LPBank and OceanBank are leading with the lowest cash selling price in the market at 188.28 VND/JPY.
The best transfer selling price belongs to NCB at 187.87 VND/JPY.
Overall, most major banks such as ACB, BIDV, Vietcombank, VietinBank or Techcombank are maintaining the fluctuation range around 185 - 187 VND/JPY.
