The Japanese Yen is still considered one of the top safe havens for global investors. In the past two weeks, the Yen, along with the Euro and the Swiss Franc, has appreciated by 5% to 8% against the USD. Rising basic wages at many Japanese companies are helping to stabilize the Yen, while the market expects the Bank of Japan (BoJ) to continue its path of raising interest rates.
Investors now believe the BoJ could continue to raise interest rates in 2025. This contrasts with the US Federal Reserve (Fed), which is expected to cut interest rates at least three times by the end of the year, according to CME Group's FedWatch tool. The difference in monetary policy between the US and Japan is helping the Yen maintain its value and avoid a sharp decline.
According to experts, Japan has a large economy, a stable political environment and a liquid financial market. These factors make the Yen an attractive safe haven asset in the eyes of international investors.
