Meeting scene.
On the morning of March 31, the National Assembly delegation of Kien Giang province met to approve the draft report on the results of monitoring the implementation of policies and laws on environmental protection since the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 took effect in Kien Giang province.
The National Assembly delegation of Kien Giang province supervised through written reports to the People's Committee of Kien Giang province and the People's Committees of Rach Gia city, Phu Quoc, and the districts of Chau Thanh, An Bien, An Minh, Hon Dat, and Kien Luong (Kien Giang).
According to the draft monitoring report on pollution control for industrial parks: In 2024, the total amount of normal industrial solid waste generated in industrial parks in Kien Giang province is about 23,401.1 tons/year, hazardous waste is about 292,363 kg/year, domestic waste is about 517.35 tons/year and wastewater is about 1,509m3 /day and night.
All waste generated is collected and contracted with a competent transport and treatment unit. Wastewater generated is treated on-site by facilities in the industrial park to meet standards before being discharged into the environment.
National Assembly Delegate, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee of Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Viet Thang spoke at the meeting.
Currently, Kien Giang province has no centralized wastewater treatment facilities. In new urban areas, there are separate wastewater and rainwater collection systems.
However, in old urban areas, the drainage system for rainwater and wastewater is not yet separate. The rate of urban wastewater collected and treated to meet standards is still low. The total volume of wastewater generated in urban areas in Kien Giang province is 31,974,000 m 3 / year, of which the total volume of urban wastewater collected and treated to meet environmental technical standards is only 3,212,000 m 3 / year, accounting for 10.05%.
Regarding waste management in agricultural activities, many livestock farms have invested in building waste treatment facilities, minimizing environmental pollution, the rate of waste treated reaches 70% by composting and biological bedding. Wastewater in livestock slaughter is treated at a rate of 98% by microbiological and chemical methods.
Regarding medical waste management, the rate of hazardous medical waste collected and treated in Kien Giang province reached 100%.
Through monitoring, the National Assembly Delegation of Kien Giang province found that the province's environmental career budget is currently low, only meeting expenses for regular activities such as environmental pollution control, inspection, examination, propaganda, training, periodic environmental monitoring; development investment and other funding sources for environmental protection are still limited. There is a lack of resources to implement large environmental protection projects such as wastewater and solid waste treatment, ecosystem restoration and climate change response.
