On the morning of May 30, the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) conducted the draw for the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship in Indonesia.

As a result, the U23 Vietnam team is in Group B with U23 Laos and U23 Cambodia. Group A includes U23 Indonesia, U23 Philippines, U23 Malaysia and U23 Brunei. Group C includes U23 Thailand, U23 Myanmar and U23 Timor Leste.

The 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship will take place from July 15 to 31 in Indonesia. According to the regulations, the teams will compete in a round-robin format.

The top three teams from each group, along with the second-placed team with the best results in each group, will advance to the semi-finals. Since Group A has four teams, the second-placed team's results will not be considered against the bottom-placed team.

Being in a fairly easy group B, the opportunity for the U23 Vietnam team to win a ticket to the semi-finals with the top spot in the group is very high.

Similarly, U23 Thailand is in group C. Meanwhile, U23 Indonesia will face a big challenge from U23 Malaysia to win the top spot in group A.

The Vietnam U23 team is the defending champion of the tournament and is also the team with the best achievements, having won the championship twice in 2022 and 2023.

Preparing for the tournament, the U23 Vietnam team officially gathered with the Vietnam national team from May 29 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center.

Because coach Kim Sang Sik is busy leading the Vietnamese team to prepare for the match against host Malaysia in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup on June 10, the U23 Vietnam team in this training session is still led by acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh.

Along with the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, young Vietnamese players are also aiming for other important tasks in 2025, including the 2026 Asian U23 Championship qualifiers in September in Viet Tri ( Phu Tho ) and men's football at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand later this year.
