At the press conference, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Thanh informed that from November 16 to November 19, Gia Lai province had very heavy and prolonged rain; especially in Van Canh with 897mm of rain (on November 19, it rained 500mm), in Quy Nhon with 879mm of rain (on November 19, it rained 447mm). The heavy rain caused the flood water level to rise very quickly, causing deep and widespread flooding in the basins of the Ha Thanh, Kon, and Ba rivers; the water level of the Ha Thanh river alone was 23cm higher than the historical flood peak in 2009.
According to preliminary statistics, more than 19,200 houses were flooded over 1.5 m deep, many places were flooded from 2-3 m, widely distributed throughout the province; mainly concentrated in the wards of Quy Nhon, Quy Nhon Dong, Quy Nhon Tay, Quy Nhon Nam, Quy Nhon Bac, Ayun Pa and the communes of Tuy Phuoc, Tuy Phuoc Dong, Tuy Phuoc Tay, Tuy Phuoc Bac, Ia Sao, Ia Tul, Ia Pa, Ia Rsai, Uar, Phu Tuc, Po To,... The natural disaster caused damage to people, houses, property, trees, crops, canals, dams, production facilities of people and businesses; the initial total damage is estimated at more than 1,000 billion VND.

Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Thanh informed about the flood situation and disaster response measures that have been deployed in the province.
In order to promptly support people who have lost property and crops, and to stabilize their lives soon, the Provincial People's Committee decided to support 2 million VND/household within 3 months for poor households, near-poor households, and policy households with difficult circumstances (about 5,000 households); at the same time, provide emergency support for households whose houses have completely collapsed at the rate of 60 million VND/house, houses with completely blown-off roofs at the rate of 5 million VND and 2 million VND for houses with damaged or partially blown-off roofs. In addition, the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to consider and report to the Prime Minister to issue 2,000 tons of rice to provide emergency support to the people.
Forecasting that the weather will continue to be complicated in the coming days, the Provincial People's Committee directed the People's Committees of communes and wards to continue to review, organize evacuation, and move people out of high-risk areas, deep flooding, landslides; ensure food, drinking water, and essential necessities in the areas where people are evacuated and relocated, not letting people go hungry, cold, or lack drinking water, etc. Increase forces to organize and guide traffic from afar to divert traffic, resolutely not allowing people and vehicles to enter areas with deep flooding and landslides. Closely monitor warning bulletins, forecasts and developments of heavy rain, information on reservoir regulation, risks of floods, inundation, flash floods, and landslides; provide timely and complete information to people to proactively prevent and avoid at the highest possible level. The Fatherland Front Committee launched the movement "the healthy leaves cover the torn leaves", calling on businesses, organizations, and individuals inside and outside the province to join hands to support people to soon stabilize their lives.
The People's Committees of communes and wards direct forces to participate in overcoming damage caused by floods; handle environmental sanitation, prevent diseases and epidemics; ensure learning conditions for students, provide medical examination and treatment for people and restore production and business activities immediately after the floods recede.
The province will synthesize and report fully and accurately information on the flood situation, damage and flood recovery work in the province for the Government to promptly consider and provide support.
On behalf of the provincial leaders, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Thanh acknowledged and highly appreciated the initiative, responsibility, spirit of dedication, and disregard for difficulties and dangers of the team of reporters from central and local press agencies and news agencies who promptly informed about the flood situation, the direction and management activities of local authorities in responding to floods and strongly spread the message of solidarity and mutual love of the people, contributing to adding more determination and strength for people in flood-affected areas to overcome calamities and difficulties and soon stabilize their lives.
With the spirit of "absolutely not being subjective", before the recent flood, the Provincial People's Committee has drastically implemented solutions, preventing early from afar to minimize the damage caused by floods in the province. The province has activated the level 3.1 flood plan on the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Control Information System software (https://thientai.gialai.gov.vn) for 58 communes and wards in the eastern region of the province. The People's Committees of 58 communes and wards in the eastern region of the province have deployed the work of evacuating people, operating smoothly and promptly reporting evacuation data, mobilizing forces, vehicles, equipment, food, emergency situations (if any), and calculating damage on the software.
The Provincial Police mobilized 11 platoons to be deployed in Dong Gia Lai area and 01 platoon to be deployed in Tay Gia Lai area and the departments under the Provincial Police estimated about 1,824 officers and soldiers; and mobilized about 3,615 commune-level officers and soldiers, along with 5,014 forces to participate in protecting security and order, and 380 civil defense comrades; used proactive support vehicles and equipment including 15 canoes, 43 motorboats, 400 cars, about 4,000 life jackets, strengthened the implementation of tasks, coordinated with the Party Committees and authorities of the communes to evacuate 2,850 households with 10,529 people to safe shelters, rescued 766 people from deep flooded areas; Check and review more than 402 vulnerable points at risk of landslides and flooding to proactively deploy forces and vehicles to set up barriers and warn people.
The Provincial Military Command mobilized 1,617 soldiers to participate in the evacuation of 2,463 households/6,704 people.
In addition, about 60 amphibious vehicles, boats, and basket boats of travel agencies and rescue teams in Nhon Ly, Quy Nhon Dong ward, and other provinces and cities also participated in supporting the evacuation of people to safety.
