GUR announced that the Blackjack group, linked to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), had hacked into the database of a Russian state-owned enterprise responsible for construction for the Moscow military.
According to GUR, Blackjack obtained more than 1.2 terabytes (TB) of classified Russian data, including a list of Moscow's military facilities.
Specifically, according to GUR, the above data warehouse contains maps of more than 500 military bases across Russia and areas that Moscow is controlling in Ukraine. In addition, it also contains a list of military headquarters, air defense facilities and Russian weapons depots.
On the GUR website, the unit said: "Extremely important information about Russian military facilities that have been completed, are under construction/reconstruction or are being planned for construction has been transferred to the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine."
GUR added that Blackjack deleted the data from seven Russian servers after taking it. In addition, Ukraine's Interfax news agency said Blackjack disabled 150 computers.
"In fact, Russian construction workers no longer have all the data and backup copies of information. Now they will have to build new facilities from memory," a source in Ukrainian law enforcement told Ukrinform .
Earlier, the Defense Intelligence Agency of Ukraine (DIU) announced that it had received 100GB of confidential data from one of the key companies in the Russian military-industrial complex, Special Technological Center (STC) LLC.
"DIU was given documents on 194 items: blueprints, specifications, patents, software, etc., on both current and future military developments," the agency said.
According to DIU's preliminary estimate, the value of this data is around 1.5 billion USD.
Russia has not commented on the Ukrainian information. In a war, it is difficult for a third party to verify information provided by one side, as this could be part of a psychological warfare tactic, aimed at influencing the opponent.
On the battlefield, the deciding factor in the success or failure of a war is not only the deployment of powerful and effective weapon systems, but also the question of how these weapons will be used.
To plan tactics, military leaders need an element as important as weapons: information. The confrontation between Russia and Ukraine over the past two years has seen both sides exploit their intelligence resources to inflict damage on the other.
Observers say that, facing an opponent with overwhelming military resources, Ukraine has sought every means to collect information as a "weapon" to deal with Russia. From there, Ukraine analyzes and converts data into important information to make decisions in the war.
