Industrialization and automation create both opportunities and challenges for many businesses. To participate in this trend, many businesses have proactively sought and invested in the fields of automation and smart manufacturing in the hope of bringing new advances in the production process.

Promote investment in science and technology
According to the Department of Science and Technology, from the beginning of 2024 to now, the city has supported 77 businesses with a total budget of VND 9,371 billion to serve the innovation of processes and machinery for production. Specifically, the city supported research and development activities, technology transfer for 15 businesses with a budget of more than VND 7.5 billion (accounting for 78.11% of the total budget); supported intellectual property activities for 13 businesses with a budget of VND 55 million (accounting for 0.64% of the total budget); supported quality measurement standards activities for 49 businesses with more than VND 1.8 billion (accounting for 21.25% of the total budget).
Some outstanding projects supported by the city to innovate equipment and machinery include: smart shrimp size sorting machine of Central Seafood Import-Export Joint Stock Company with a budget of 890 million VND; automatic chemical weighing system of Da Nang Rubber Joint Stock Company with a budget of 670 million VND; research, design and manufacture of 20mm-80mm thick steel plate rolling machine of Ha Giang Phuoc Tuong Mechanical Joint Stock Company with 930 million VND; research, design and manufacture of magnetic baking machine of QCM Technology Joint Stock Company with 524 million VND... thereby creating practical efficiency in production practice.
Mr. Ho Duc Tien, Director of Mayaca Coffee Company Limited (Hoa Minh Ward, Lien Chieu District) said that the company has proactively invested in machinery and equipment to be ready to complete the expansion goal in the Da Nang market and other provinces and cities. Recently, the company has invested in purchasing quantitative roasting machines and weight screening machines with a total cost of 700 million VND, of which 177 million VND was supported by the city from the industrial promotion project. Thanks to that, the company's production output in 2024 is estimated to reach 100 tons (an increase of 200% compared to the same period in 2023).
Some businesses choose to cooperate with research institutes and universities to promote innovation in production. For example, Dong A University supports STC Electric Electrical Equipment Manufacturing Joint Stock Company (An Khe Ward, Thanh Khe District) in accessing investment sources, research, and meeting production activities. Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Director of STC Electric Electrical Equipment Manufacturing Joint Stock Company, said that cooperating with universities helps businesses save costs, time, and have the opportunity to test and experiment before bringing finished products to market.
Continue business support policies
On May 13, 2024, the Politburo issued Conclusion No. 79-KL/TW, prioritizing investment resources to develop science and technology infrastructure, innovative startups, effectively exploit concentrated information industrial parks, software parks to promote the development of information technology, electronics, telecommunications, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, big data and semiconductor chips. The city has carried out many activities to support businesses to invest in science and technology development, innovation and establish a favorable environment for business and production.
At the 19th session, term 2021-2026, the City People's Council passed Resolution No. 35/2024/NQ-HDND stipulating policies to support technological innovation in Da Nang city. Some points to note in this resolution are: enterprises and organizations will be supported with technological innovation costs in accordance with current laws; the subjects of application include manufacturing and trading enterprises and cooperatives operating in research and technology transfer.
Mr. Huynh Sang, Head of Technology Management Department (Department of Science and Technology) said that Resolution No. 35/2024/NQ-HDND clearly stipulates the types of technology that are prioritized for support such as high technology, environmental technology and energy-saving technology; support conditions include compliance with tax obligations and environmental protection as well as demonstrating the ability to conduct research or transfer technology; the maximum support level for research costs and equipment purchases is up to 70% of the cost...
The Resolution takes effect from August 10, 2024 and replaces previous regulations on supporting technological innovation. In addition to Resolution No. 35/2024/NQ-HDND, the city also has regulations and documents to create a corridor to support businesses such as: Decision No. 36/2016/QD-UBND dated November 8, 2016 detailing the content and level of support for activities of standards, measurement, quality and intellectual property. Decision No. 26/2019/QD-UBND dated May 16, 2019 amending and supplementing a number of articles of the regulations on a number of policies to support businesses in technological innovation.
The city's specific policies on supporting enterprises in technological innovation have been effectively implemented, creating a favorable legal corridor to support enterprises in developing production, creating new products, improving product quality and competitiveness in the market.
