Vaccine 'against all types of cancer': Trial gives surprising results!

A 'cancer-fighting' vaccine developed by scientists has shown to be powerful in activating the immune system and killing tumours in trials, research has revealed.

Research from the University of Florida (USA) shows that mRNA vaccines do not need to target a specific protein on the tumor but still create a strong anti-cancer response.

Just activating the immune system strongly enough can make cancer "weak" against attacks. When combining vaccines with immunosuppressive therapy, even the most "stubborn" tumors, resistant to all existing treatments, "surrendered" and shrank significantly. In some cases, without immunotherapy, the vaccine alone was enough to completely destroy the tumor.

Lead study author Dr. Elias Sayour, a pediatric oncologist at the University of Florida, said this is a new treatment approach that could replace or complement surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, according to the science news site Scitech Daily.

The findings are evidence that the vaccine has the potential to be commercialized as a universal cancer vaccine to boost the immune system against a patient's specific tumor, said Elias Sayour.

The vaccine is designed not to specifically target any cancer, but instead to stimulate a very strong anti-cancer immune response, said study co-author Dr. Duane Mitchell. The vaccine was developed using the same technology as the Covid-19 mRNA vaccine, but does not target any specific viral proteins.

The test results are amazing and hopeful!

In a test on mice with a type of resistant malignant skin cancer, using the vaccine in combination with a PD‑1 immunosuppressant drug caused the tumor to shrink significantly.

In the next step of the research, when tested on mouse models with skin cancer, bone cancer and brain tumors, the results showed that without the need for immunotherapy, the vaccine alone was enough to completely eliminate the tumor, according to Scitech Daily.

Scientists found that this vaccine can "wake up" "sleeping" T cells, triggering them to multiply and destroy tumors when the immune response is strong enough.

Dr Mitchell said: The research team is perfecting the formula and accelerating progress towards human clinical trials, opening up realistic prospects for a widespread cancer vaccine in the future.
