Taking advantage of the increased spending demand at the end of the year, scammers seek to approach victims to advise them on how to borrow money quickly through installment purchases of electronic goods. In particular, the subjects also use their phone numbers as relatives of the victims in loan contracts when financial companies request a reference phone number to perform in the contract.
The subjects then guide the victims to go to an electronics store to buy goods on installments and support the down payment of the item to create trust in the victims. For each successful installment contract, the subjects will give the victims a small amount of money to purchase the product, and at the same time take the product to sell to appropriate the difference (about 5 to 10 million VND, depending on the value of the product).
After falling into the trap, the victims will lose a fairly high contract support fee to the scammer (ranging from 30% - 40% of the product value) and at the same time bear the responsibility to pay the entire amount in the installment contract at the financial companies. This can make customers easily get into debt and face other risks such as recording bad debt on CIC if the customer does not pay in full and on time; thereby, affecting the use of financial products and the ability to borrow capital in the future.
In fact, this trick has not appeared for the first time, but with different covers, scammers still lure many victims into the trap. Faced with this situation, companies, financial institutions as well as authorities continuously issue warnings to people.
Home Credit gives advice to customers on how to avoid fraud when buying electronic products on installments
Accordingly, to avoid the above bad situations, a representative of Home Credit finance company said that customers need to absolutely keep their personal information confidential, especially information and images on their ID card/CCCD, be wary of tricks of bad guys such as promoting quick loans through the form of electronic purchases converted to cash, and carefully learn about installment contracts, especially payment responsibilities for contracts under their name.
The Criminal Police Department of Phan Thiet City Police, Binh Thuan Province, once investigated and clarified the behavior of a group of 4 subjects who had defrauded people by lending money without interest. These subjects selected people who were in need of quick loans; then enticed and enticed them to agree to buy goods on installments without having to pay in advance or pay any installments; on the other hand, they also received a few million VND to pocket and spend.
