Nowadays, it is not easy to get a place in the Olympics in sports with performance standards because the standard calculation system has changed to higher achievements; at the same time, the Federations and Associations of sports around the world are considering achievements more on the world ranking of the country or athlete in that sport.

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the Vietnamese sports delegation has the participation of 18 athletes in swimming, athletics, shooting, weightlifting, taekwondo, badminton, boxing, gymnastics, judo, rowing, and archery. Among them, some are going with official tickets, some are attending with invitations.

Up to now, Vietnamese sports have won 3 official tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics in swimming (Nguyen Huy Hoang, 400m freestyle), cycling (Nguyen Thi That, women's mass start), and shooting (Trinh Thu Vinh, women's 10m air pistol). The immediate goal of Vietnamese sports is to strive to win 6-7 more official tickets in the near future. However, the list and number of athletes who have won tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics will be finalized around April 2024, which is not a long time for Vietnamese sports to complete the set target. This means that athletes must work hard to compete for official tickets to France.

Among the sports that are expected to win more tickets to Paris 2024 for Vietnamese sports are shooting, badminton, rowing, taekwondo, boxing... Among them, the face of Vietnamese badminton who is expected to soon have a ticket to the Olympics is tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh. With her personal score and a safe position in the world's top 20, Nguyen Thuy Linh will almost certainly be present in Paris next summer. However, she needs to compete and have stable results in international tournaments until April next year to secure a ticket.

The rowing team still receives great expectations. Specifically, the Vietnamese rowing team is also actively preparing professionally to participate in the tournament that counts as the Olympic ticket when participating in tournaments in December as well as early 2024. The goal of the whole team is to win at least 1 official ticket to Paris 2024. This is an achievable goal when the achievements of the Vietnamese rowing team at the recent ASIAD 19 have been achieved at a level approaching the Olympic standard.

In addition, the swimming team will continue to compete in November, swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang will participate in the 2023 Asian Youth Championship in the Philippines, and if he achieves the best physical condition, this swimmer will achieve the Olympic A standard.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) will end the qualifying tournaments for the 2024 Paris Olympics on June 30, 2024. Vietnamese athletics did not win any official spots from the results of the 32nd SEA Games and the 19th ASIAD, so in 2024, the athletes will have to make efforts to complete the task. The same goes for the weightlifting team. In 2024, Vietnamese weightlifters will compete in the Asian Championship (February, in Uzbekistan) and the World Cup (April, in Thailand) to accumulate more points to compete for Olympic spots.

Meanwhile, the taekwondo team is still focusing on investing in boxer Truong Thi Kim Tuyen (49kg women) and is expected to compete in 4 more international tournaments in 2024 to accumulate points to compete for an Olympic ticket. In boxing, it will not be until early 2024 that Nguyen Thi Tam, Ha Thi Linh and some other boxers can participate in 2 Olympic qualifying rounds: the first round (February, in Italy) and the second round (March, in Thailand) to compete for an official ticket to Paris 2024.

Meanwhile, a prominent face of the Vietnamese shooting team, Pham Quang Huy, is still trying to qualify for the Olympics, even though he has just achieved a historic achievement of winning a Gold Medal in shooting at the 19th ASIAD. However, his latest achievement at the 2023 Asian Championship recently ranked him 9th and could not make it into the list of the best athletes entering the final round of the men's 10m air pistol event. In March 2024, the Vietnamese shooting team will participate in the next tournament in the Asian Olympic qualifying round to compete for an Olympic ticket.

With the current strength, realizing the above goal will be very difficult and pose many challenges for Vietnamese sports. According to the Director of the Department of Physical Training and Sports (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) Dang Ha Viet, in reality, it is very difficult for Vietnamese sports to win 20 direct tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics, but the goal of getting 10 tickets is completely feasible. Coaches and athletes are still working hard to train and strive to win tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics./.
