With the goal of connecting and promoting the intellectual sports of chess and Chinese chess in schools, the Chess Club of Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences in collaboration with the Chess Club of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted organized an open tournament.

The tournament attracted a lot of students and college students when there were 250 athletes registered to participate, competing in 2 chess subjects, Chinese chess and chess with groups including U.11, U.15 and open. At the tournament, the players also had the chance to interact with famous players in the Vietnamese chess community such as Tu Hoang Thong, Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong, Vu Quoc Dat.
After a day of exciting competition, the best players in each category were determined. In the men's individual chess category, Vo Pham Thien Phuc (International University) won the gold medal, while the men's team category belonged to Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports. Nguyen Ngo Lien Huong (Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences) won the gold medal in the women's individual chess category and helped her school win the gold medal in the women's team category.

In chess, Phan Nguyen Cong Minh (Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences) won the individual gold medal and the men's team gold medal went to Saigon University.
Grandmaster Tu Hoang Thong, also a dedicated chess coach, said that the athletes participating in the tournament showed positive energy and a desire to learn. He is also willing to guide talented players who have won high prizes at the tournament, if they wish to develop professionally.
