Proactive solutions
Many difficulties and challenges are posed for the operation of the transmission grid in the hot season of 2024 when the load increases and many lines and transformers operate with high loads, especially the transmission grid to release renewable energy in the South Central region, the Central Highlands and the Central - North transmission section. This poses a potential risk of incidents affecting power supply.

However, EVNNPT always determines that ensuring safe and reliable operation of the transmission grid is the most important goal, therefore, EVNNPT has synchronously deployed many solutions.
To ensure transmission capacity of the Central - Northern section from Da Nang - Vung Ang - Ha Tinh - Nghi Son - Nho Quan, in the operation management work, EVNNPT has deployed many solutions and completed them before April 30, 2024 such as: directing units to develop and implement plans to prevent and reduce incidents for each line and each transformer station; ensuring the completion of periodic equipment testing volume in 2024.
Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot station and line equipment during power outages to prevent heat generation and incidents; complete equipment repairs according to the 2024 repair plan; install additional rudders to increase load capacity...
The periodic testing work in 2024 of the 500 kV transformer stations connecting the Central - Northern grid has been basically completed, with only a few bays remaining to be cut off for implementation.
The work of cleaning insulation, adding insulation, checking accessories, handling sway, installing additional rudders at anchor positions, repairing grounding systems, handling rudder head contacts, cutting trees in the corridor, handling phase-to-ground distances, cleaning hotlines, etc. has been carried out simultaneously with a large volume of work for all power lines in the Central - Northern section.
EVNNPT Deputy General Director Luu Viet Tien said: To ensure the safety of the power transmission system, EVNNPT has completed the installation of 8 additional shunt capacitor banks with a total capacity of 375 MVAr at 8 220kV transformer stations in the Northern region earlier than the plan assigned by EVN.
In addition, EVNNPT has completed increasing the capacity of compensation capacitors at the 220kV Mai Dong and Van Tri transformer stations by about 31 MVAr of shunt compensation capacitors. The completion of the above items with an additional compensation capacity of about 406 MVAr has contributed to ensuring the operation of the Northern power grid during the first phase of the peak heat wave...

Promote the application of science and technology
EVNNPT Deputy General Director Luu Viet Tien added: To be proactive in the hot season, EVNNPT is continuing to review spare parts for main equipment to ensure the fastest replacement when abnormalities or incidents occur.
For transformers, backup transformers have been prepared at the 500 kV stations of Quang Ninh, Hoa Binh, Hiep Hoa, Thuong Tin, and Tay Ha Noi. For primary and secondary equipment, EVNNPT has reviewed equipment by type to be ready to replace when there is an abnormality.
In the investment and construction work, EVNNPT is urgently implementing the 500 kV line 3 project from Quang Trach to Pho Noi to increase the transmission capacity of the Central - North and is striving to complete it in June 2024. Along with that, EVNNPT is also actively implementing the 220 kV Nam Sum - Nong Cong line project and projects to relieve power sources in the areas.
In particular, EVNNPT has made efforts, focused on implementation and achieved many achievements in digital transformation and application of science and technology. Digital transformation and application of science and technology have fundamentally changed the management, operation and repair of EVNNPT's transmission grid.
EVNNPT promotes the application of science and technology in the management and operation of the transmission grid. In the photo: Quang Binh Power Transmission uses UAV flying devices to automatically plan flight paths.
EVNNPT has completed digitizing power grid information on the PMIS technical management software built by EVN; completed digitizing power grid information on the GIS geographic information map and widely deployed the application throughout EVNNPT...
In the coming time, EVNNPT will continue to promote digital transformation, apply science and technology to improve the efficiency of transmission grid management and operation. In which, it will focus on the following contents: perfecting experimental management software, line operation management testing software, substation testing software to fully meet the requirements of transmission grid management and operation; promoting the effective application of UAVs and artificial intelligence to analyze images for line operation management, etc.
EVNNPT Deputy General Director Luu Viet Tien assessed: With careful preparation in operation, EVNNPT will make maximum efforts to ensure safe and continuous power transmission to contribute with EVN to ensure sufficient power supply to serve the country's socio-economic development.
