Fruit growing area in Chieng Xuan commune, Van Ho district.

As one of the localities with the largest fruit growing area in the district, Chieng Xuan commune currently has 478 hectares of fruit trees, mainly longan, mango, and orange. Annual fruit output reaches over 1,800 tons. In recent years, many farming households have joined together to establish cooperatives, sharing and supporting production experience and product consumption.

Tien Thanh Agricultural Cooperative, Suoi Quanh village, Chieng Xuan commune has 8 members, growing over 50 hectares of oranges and longans. Of these, over 30 hectares of Mien Thiet longan are in the fruiting period. Currently, the cooperative members are focusing on implementing many technical measures to care for longans with the goal of this year's fruit yield reaching 400 tons or more.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tien Thanh Agricultural Cooperative, said: Longan is entering the fruit-growing stage, we prune small, too thick or diseased fruit clusters so that the tree can concentrate nutrients on the main fruit clusters. This is an important step, helping the fruit to develop evenly, have beautiful appearance, and increase commercial value. At the same time, fertilization is given special attention. From now until May, when there is more rain and the soil has enough moisture, households will apply potassium and NPK to help the fruit be sweet and the stem will be firm. In addition, the use of organic fertilizers, microbial fertilizers and the addition of trace elements Boron, Zn... contribute to improving fruit quality and plant resistance.

According to the experience of longan growers, the time when the fruit develops and begins to ripen is when many types of pests, such as fruit flies, fruit borers or black mold, attack strongly. Therefore, it is necessary to visit the garden regularly, use biological measures, prioritize safe pesticides, and ensure the correct quarantine period according to regulations.

Farmers in Van Ho commune prune plum trees.

In Pa Cop village, Van Ho commune, Mr. Do Quy Hanh's family has 6 hectares of plums produced in an organic and VietGAP manner. His family flexibly applies technical measures and production experience to ensure high productivity and quality of plums. Mr. Hanh informed: Since the beginning of the year, the amount of rain has been insignificant, the family has invested in a water storage tank and an irrigation system right in the garden, ensuring water for the trees. When the fruit has been set for 1 month, I use manure, organic fertilizer from banana stems, banana flowers and soaked soybeans to fertilize the trees. At the same time, I use organic pesticides to spray to protect the fruit from white fungus, anthracnose, fruit flies, etc.

In 2025, Van Ho district will have 596 hectares of plums, nearly 800 longans, 886 hectares of mangoes grown in the communes of Chieng Xuan, Tan Xuan, Xuan Nha, Van Ho, Long Luong... The annual fruit output will reach over 8,000 tons. The whole district is maintaining 13 safe agricultural product supply chains; over 50 hectares of fruit trees are grown organically, meeting VietGAP standards. To support farmers in caring for and harvesting fruit to ensure productivity and quality, the district's professional agencies also coordinate with the communes to regularly organize technical training and provide guidance on production processes according to VietGAP and organic standards.

Farmers in Chieng Xuan commune, Van Ho district, take care of longan.

Mr. Thai Ba Sinh, Deputy Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: The Department has coordinated with the District Agricultural Service Center to organize 7 training courses on garden thinning techniques, grafting, planting, and caring for newly planted fruit trees... for more than 200 people. At the same time, it has promoted, mobilized, and advised farmers to use pesticides according to the "4 rights" principle, maintain the VietGAP production process, and produce in an organic direction.

Focusing on fruit tree care at this time not only ensures the appearance and unique flavor of the fruit, but also creates a solid foundation for Van Ho district to expand its consumption market and enhance the brand of agricultural products. With proactive and flexible cultivation techniques, along with the active support of professional agencies, farmers in Van Ho district are looking forward to a bumper crop.
