It is worth mentioning that this phenomenon has shown signs of increasing recently.
Accordingly, scammers claiming to be Vietcombank employees contacted customers via phone, SMS, Zalo, Messenger... inviting customers to open a non-physical debit card or issue a credit card. Some of the reported fake phone numbers include: 02366888766, 02488860469, 02888865154, 1900355561...

In some cases, when receiving a call, customers will hear a message impersonating an automated switchboard: "Congratulations, you are eligible to issue a credit card at the bank. If you have any needs, press 1 or press 0 to speak to the operator." If the customer presses the key, the scammer will hang up the call, then call back, claiming to be a bank employee and tricking the customer into providing personal information and confidential information of the banking service.
The subjects asked customers to register for debit card issuance, provide information about newly issued debit cards, and used that card information to link the customer's card to their e-Wallet or use the card for online payment on e-commerce sites (to buy high-value items such as iPhone, MacBook, etc.), thereby appropriating money in the customer's card.
The information that the subject requests to provide usually includes: Card image; series of numbers printed on the card; name on the card; screen displaying the full card number on VCB Digibank; OTP code...
The subject asks customers to provide account number information, personal information (CCCD, biometric image...), service security information (password, OTP...) to log in to the banking application and appropriate customers' assets.
At the same time, the subject asks the customer to transfer money to another account with the purpose of "raising credit score to qualify for card issuance", thereby appropriating the customer's money. During the fraud process, the fraudster may ask the customer to transfer money to pay for application fees, card issuance fees, etc.
Vietcombank recommends that customers absolutely do not provide confidential information (card information, VCB Digibank application password, OTP code) to anyone. Vietcombank does not require customers to provide service confidentiality information in any form.
In addition, customers should not access strange links or scan QR codes of unknown origin sent via email, text messages (SMS) or social networks. Vietcombank does not send emails or SMS messages containing links to customers.
