It's worth noting that this phenomenon has shown signs of increasing recently.

Accordingly, scammers posing as Vietcombank employees contact customers via phone, SMS, Zalo, Messenger, etc., inviting them to open non-physical debit cards or issue credit cards. Some of the fake phone numbers that have been reported include: 02366888766, 02488860469, 02888865154, 1900355561…

Vietcombank warns of a new scam.

In some cases, when receiving a call, customers will hear a fake automated message from the call center: "Congratulations, you are eligible to apply for a credit card at the bank. If you wish to speak with an agent, press 1 or 0." If the customer presses a key, the scammer disconnects the call, then calls back posing as a bank employee and tricking the customer into providing personal information and confidential banking details.

The perpetrators request customers to register for a debit card, provide information about the newly issued debit card, and use that card information to link the customer's card to their e-wallet or use the card for online payments on e-commerce websites (purchasing high-value items such as iPhones, MacBooks, etc.), thereby stealing money from the customer's card.

The information that the recipient typically requests includes: Card image; the series of numbers printed on the card; the name on the card; a screenshot of the full card number displayed on VCB Digibank; the OTP code, etc.

The perpetrators request customers to provide account numbers, personal information (ID card number, biometric image, etc.), and service security information (password, OTP, etc.) to log into banking applications and steal customers' assets.

Simultaneously, the perpetrators request customers to transfer money to another account under the pretext of "improving their credit score to qualify for a card," thereby defrauding the customers. During the scam, the fraudsters may also request customers to transfer money to pay for application fees, card issuance fees, etc.

Vietcombank advises customers to absolutely not provide confidential information (card information, VCB Digibank application password, OTP code) to anyone. Vietcombank does not request customers to provide confidential service information in any form.

Furthermore, customers should not access suspicious links or scan QR codes from unknown sources sent via email, SMS, or social media. Vietcombank does not send emails or SMS messages containing links to customers.

Customers should only contact and receive information through Vietcombank's official channels as follows: Website: https://www.vietcombank.com.vn/; Vietcombank's Facebook account with a blue checkmark verified by Facebook; Call center and dedicated staff: 1900545413…
