Transformation and integration

From the moment of national reunification in 1975 to the current period of innovation and deep integration, Vietnamese literature and arts have come a long way with many remarkable marks. Not only reflecting the reality of life, literature and arts also play the role of a spiritual torch, inspiring and arousing the inner strength of the nation in all circumstances.

The blending of cultural currents, the rise of individual creativity and the desire for international integration have created a Vietnamese culture and art scene rich in identity and full of vitality.

Professor Dinh Xuan Dung emphasized the important shift in thinking in the Party's viewpoint on literature and arts: from viewing it as a mere propaganda tool to recognizing it as an autonomous, creative spiritual force that directly contributes to social development.

He affirmed that in the new development period, literature and art should be placed on par with the political, economic and social fields, because it contains great potential in nurturing people and the national cultural foundation. Continuing the inspiration of unity, poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association, looked back at the historical period after 1975 as a turning point for literature and art.

He believes that the harmony between artists from the three regions and overseas Vietnamese has created a unified, strong flow, reflecting truthfully and multi-dimensionally about Vietnamese society, history and people.

Along with literature, cinema - a potential art and culture industry - is also highly appreciated by Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan for its development speed. The new Cinema Law, young human resources and rich culture are obvious advantages. However, she also frankly pointed out barriers such as: unclear preferential policies, inadequate distribution system, and limited market share of Vietnamese films.

To solve this problem, she proposed building a synchronous film ecosystem, supporting in-depth art films, strengthening international cooperation and a systematic promotion strategy to enhance the position of Vietnamese cinema on the world map.

Most opinions clearly state that after half a century, Vietnamese literature and arts have demonstrated their strong vitality, creative spirit and irreplaceable role in the country's development process. In the new era, it is necessary to continue to give literature and arts a healthy, free development environment guided by sustainable values of truth, goodness and beauty.

New mission in the era of growth

At the conference, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Manh Cuong also summarized 50 years of strong development of Ho Chi Minh City's literature and arts. Immediately after the takeover of Saigon, artists from the war zone, the North and patriotic forces in Saigon gathered, creating a strong, talented and enthusiastic force of artists.

Names such as Phung Ha, Ut Tra On, Che Lan Vien, Nguyen Quang Sang, Trinh Cong Son, Xuan Hong... have left a deep impression. Ho Chi Minh City currently has nearly 97,000 people working in the field of culture and arts and nearly 17,670 cultural enterprises, accounting for 7.74% of the total number of enterprises in the city. These enterprises contribute about 5.7% of GRDP annually, with an average growth rate of 14%, a figure that shows the growing strength of culture and arts in contributing to sustainable development.

Affirming the important role of literature and arts in the cause of national construction and development, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized: “Over the past 50 years, Vietnamese literature and arts have been a voice of gratitude and praise for the patriotic and revolutionary traditions of our army and people; at the same time, it is a voice of national harmony, contributing to healing and soothing the pain and loss of war; creating a new spirit and new strength for the nation. That seems simple, but it is one of the turning points of historical significance for the country and its literature and arts.”

Expressing his hopes for the young creative generation, the Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission emphasized that no matter how technology develops, real life is still the foundation for nurturing creative inspiration. Each genuine work of literature and art will contribute to building a system of national values, culture, family and standards for Vietnamese people in the new era, opening the door to a bright future for the nation.
