Previously, on the afternoon of May 8, Mr. H. played pickleball with a group of friends on a sports field in Tan Binh district. At 3:00 p.m. the same day, Mr. H. suddenly collapsed, did not respond to calls, and was taken to Thong Nhat Hospital by relatives in a state of cardiac arrest, no pulse, and cyanosis. After 45 minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the patient did not recover.
Dr. Nguyen Thuy Trang, Head of the Emergency Department of Thong Nhat Hospital, recommends that participating in sports appropriate to the health status and current medical conditions of the people is very important. People need to play sports at a moderate level, not overexert themselves, to avoid the risk of affecting cardiovascular problems.
“Just 4 minutes after cardiac arrest, without blood to the brain, the brain will be irreversibly damaged. Therefore, when detecting a person showing signs of sudden unconsciousness, unresponsive when shaken, suspected cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, people around need to quickly perform basic first aid measures (external chest compressions, calling for help). At the same time, call 115 to quickly have professional emergency forces arrive at the scene to help identify and handle the situation professionally and promptly," noted Dr. Nguyen Thuy Trang.
