EUR/USD world exchange rate today 5/10/2025
The EUR/USD pair bounced to 1.1269, off a three-week low around 1.1200 earlier in the day. The rebound came as the US dollar (USD) temporarily weakened amid cautious sentiment ahead of the US-China trade talks scheduled for Saturday.
The euro (EUR) also had a positive trading day, outperforming many other currencies, despite dovish comments from European Central Bank (ECB) officials, who said that eurozone inflation is slowing and could soon reach the ECB's 2% target.
Bank of Finland Governor Olli Rehn said that if the current weak inflation and economic growth trends are confirmed in the June forecast, the ECB may cut interest rates to achieve its price stability target.
Normally, statements like this would put downward pressure on the euro, but in this session, the EUR maintained its upward momentum.
Meanwhile, investors are still waiting for a response from the US after the European Commission published a public consultation document, proposing measures to respond to US tariffs.
The EU said that if trade talks do not produce positive results, the bloc could impose tariffs on US goods worth up to 95 billion euros, a figure close to the 100 billion euros previously mentioned by Bloomberg.
ECB Governing Council member Gediminas Šimkus also stressed that the euro area's inflation outlook could now be heavily influenced by how the EU reacts to US trade policies.
