About the revolutionary base of Lung Dan Danh

Returning to Muong Bu in the historic days of August, we were amazed at the transformation of the land that used to be the revolutionary base of Lung Dan Danh. All over the hillsides were orchards laden with fruit trees, corn fields, and green rice fields; concrete roads leading to the villages, on both sides were well-built houses, a prosperous and fulfilling life was present.

A time of fire and flowers

It takes about 40 minutes from the center of Muong Bu commune following provincial road 110 to Muong Kham village, continuing to turn about 5 km along the asphalt road, we arrive at Lung Dan Danh historical site, Chang Lua village, an important place associated with the resistance war against French colonialism of the army and people of Muong La.

The glorious vestiges of the past are still intact. Pu Tre Slope, the only road where our army and people used to set stone traps, is now a familiar path for people going to the fields to produce. Deep in the valley is Dan Danh Cave, which used to be the "command post" and "safe zone" of the revolutionary forces of Muong La district.

According to the memoirs of Mr. Vu Ngoc Thanh (Hoang Cam La), the first Secretary of the Muong La District Party Committee: In May 1948, the Son La Provincial Party Committee established two propaganda teams, "Quyet Tien" and "Chien Thang". The Chien Thang team, led by Mr. Hoang Cam La, was stationed in Lung Dan Danh, with the task of infiltrating enemy areas, building bases and developing guerrilla warfare. On March 27, 1949, the team launched an armed struggle in three communes, Muong Bang, Muong Chum and Muong Bu, and won many victories. These feats not only protected the safety of the base area but also maintained the left bank of the Da River.

In June 1949, Provincial Party Secretary Tran Quyet came to Lung Dan Danh to inspect, direct and award the honorary flag to the Victory team. Here, the Provincial Party Committee decided to establish the Muong La District Party Committee, appointing Mr. Hoang Cam La as Secretary. The Party Committee led the people to develop the economy and fight against foreign invaders, contributing to the liberation of the homeland on November 22, 1952; contributing human and material resources to the victory of the Northwest campaign in 1952 and the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu in 1954. Muong Chum commune was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces during the resistance war against French colonialism. In 2018, Lung Dan Danh revolutionary base was ranked as a provincial-level historical relic by the Provincial People's Committee.

Arriving at Noong 2 village, I met and talked with Mr. Quang Van Le, one of the first nine party members of the Muong Chum Party Cell. At the age of 94, Mr. Le is still very clear-headed. He said: At that time, the youth in the area were very enthusiastic and brave, preparing sticks and spears to volunteer to fight against the French colonialists. After being admitted to the Party in 1959, I was appointed Secretary of the Muong Chum Commune Party Committee, then elected Chairman of the Inspection Committee of the Muong La District Party Committee until my retirement in 1992. I still regularly propagate and mobilize my children and grandchildren to promote the revolutionary tradition, strictly implement the Party's policies, and contribute to building an increasingly prosperous and beautiful homeland.

Changing the revolutionary countryside

Promoting the revolutionary tradition, Chang Lua village, where Lung Dan Danh historical relic is located, has made strong changes. Mr. Lo Van Vuong, Party cell secretary and village head, said: The village actively propagates to people to change the structure of crops and livestock, contribute working days and funds to concretize the roads inside the village. Thanks to that, the material and spiritual life is increasingly improved. Currently, the average income per capita of the village has reached more than 35 million VND/year and there are only 8 poor households.

From July 2025, Muong Bu commune was established on the basis of merging Muong Bu, Muong Chum and Ta Bu communes, opening up a new development space. The commune always promotes the revolutionary tradition, solidarity, emulation in labor production and achieves many achievements in various fields, the countryside is increasingly prosperous.

Mr. Lu Van Quy, Chairman of Muong Bu Commune People's Committee, said: During the 2020-2025 term, the communes have focused on developing agriculture towards commodity production. Fruit trees have become the main strength with an area of 3,413 hectares, an average output of more than 14,000 tons/year. High-tech processing and farm projects have been attracted, along with the establishment of 13 cooperatives, helping to form value chains. Thanks to that, the commune's poverty rate has decreased to 18.25%.

Rural infrastructure has been invested, culture and society have made many advances, national defense and security have been maintained. Regarding new rural construction, new rural criteria are gradually being completed, this will be a solid foundation for Muong Bu commune to continue to develop, building an increasingly rich and beautiful homeland.

Continuing the heroic tradition, the work of educating revolutionary ideals for the younger generation has always been focused on. Mr. Quàng Văn Ngát, Secretary of the Mường Bú Commune Youth Union, said: The Commune Youth Union regularly organizes thematic activities on "Studying and following the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh", combined with learning about local history and heroic and martyr examples. "Journey to the source" and "Journey to the red address" are organized, bringing union members and children to visit Lung Dan Danh historical site, listen to witnesses tell stories, and recognize the value of independence and freedom. In addition, the Commune Youth Union also maintains activities of "Repaying gratitude", implementing the model of "Volunteer Saturday - Green Sunday", cleaning up martyrs' cemeteries, visiting and giving gifts to families with meritorious services, etc.

Continuing to promote the revolutionary tradition, entering a new phase, the Party Committee and people of Muong Bu commune focus on breakthroughs such as human resource development, application of science and technology and digital transformation, determined to build the homeland increasingly prosperous. Lung Dan Danh historical relic site is preserved and developed into a meaningful tourist destination, a place to educate the revolutionary tradition for the younger generation.
