Why did international visitors to Vietnam decrease in April?

In April 2025, the number of international visitors to Vietnam reached 1.65 million, down 15-20% compared to the first months of the year.

According to the General Statistics Office on May 6, in April 2025, Vietnam tourism welcomed 1.65 million international visitors, an increase of more than 6% over the same period last year. However, this is the lowest month since the beginning of the year.

Tourism experts said the number of international visitors to Vietnam decreased in April because this is the last month of the peak international tourist season of the year.

The peak season for international visitors is from September and October each year to March and April of the following year.

In the first four months of 2025, Vietnam is estimated to welcome 7.67 million international visitors, an increase of nearly 24% over the same period in 2024.

Of which, visitors entering by air accounted for approximately 86% with nearly 6.6 million arrivals. Next was by road with 924,900 arrivals, and by sea with more than 158,000 arrivals.

Revenue from accommodation and catering services in the first four months of 2025 is estimated at around VND270,000 billion. Some localities with revenue increasing by 15-19% are Quang Ninh, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi , and Hai Phong.

Tourism revenue in the first four months of 2025 is estimated to reach over VND30,000 billion. The reason is that people's travel demand increases during holidays, Tet and especially the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.

In April and the first four months of 2025, China remained Vietnam’s largest market for tourists. The next positions were Korea, Taiwan, Japan, India, etc.

Asian tourists to Vietnam in the first four months of the year alone are estimated at over 5.9 million, accounting for nearly 78% of the tourist structure.

With more than 7.6 million international visitors in the first four months of the year, experts say this is a positive signal for the target of welcoming 22-23 million international visitors this year.
