French actor Tchéky Karyo breathed his last on October 31. This information was confirmed by his wife, actress Valérie Keruzoré, and children in a statement sent to AFP news agency.
His passing has ended a nearly four-decade artistic journey filled with dedication, profound roles, and the Tchéky Karyo mark.
Four-decade journey
Tchéky Karyo was born in 1953 in Istanbul, Turkey but grew up in Paris, France. He studied acting at the Cyrano Theatre and then joined the Daniel Sorano troupe. He then went to the Strasbourg National Theatre and performed in many contemporary and classic plays such as Tartuffe , Macbeth and Othello .
Tchéky Karyo's film career began in the 1980s. After a period of hard work on the stage, his role in La Balance earned him a nomination for "Most Promising Actor" at the César Awards. In 1986 he received the prestigious Jean Gabin Award.

In 1990, the role of Bob in the film La Femme Nikita not only helped Tchéky Karyo make a strong impression on the screen, but also marked a major turning point in his artistic journey. This role helped him receive the "Best Actor" award at the Mystfest Film Festival.
From there, Karyo took mainly supporting roles in many films of the 1990s, including Joan of Arc, Bad Boys, 1492: Conquest of Paradise, James Bond: GoldenEye, Addicted to Love, Babel and The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc .
In the 2000s, Karyo continued to be active in the film industry. In parallel, he began participating in television series.
One of his most prominent roles was as detective Julien Baptiste in the series The Missing , which earned him a nomination for "Best Actor in a Miniseries" at the 2015 Monte-Carlo Television Festival.
The Missing follows the search for a five-year-old British boy who goes missing during a family holiday in France. It has been hailed as “a haunting and brilliant piece of television.” Both parts of the series received positive reviews, with critics praising the cast, especially Karyo’s performance.

Karyo then focused mainly on television. He appeared in the series War on Beasts , The Name of the Rose , and ZeroZeroZero . He also played the lead role in the series Baptiste , a spin-off of The Missing.
BBC Director of Drama Lindsay Salt expressed her condolences at the passing of Tchéky Karyo: "He was a talented actor, loved by BBC audiences for his roles in The Missing , Baptiste and most recently Boat Story . We send our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones."
In addition to acting, Tchéky is also a highly regarded musician. He released the album Ce lien qui nous unit (The Thread That Binds Us) in 2006 and Credo in 2013 on the occasion of his 60th birthday.
