In her opening speech, Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Bach Lien Huong emphasized that Photo Hanoi'25 is a testament to the strong cooperative relationship between Hanoi and France, and a bridge to help Vietnamese photography reach international standards. This is an opportunity for the public, especially the youth, to access new creative styles from Vietnam and the world , thereby promoting the image of the country and people of the capital and spreading the humanistic values of photography.
This is the third Biennale since the French Institute in Vietnam initiated it in 2021. Through two previous editions, Photo Hanoi'25 has affirmed its appeal to art lovers, becoming a cultural meeting place for international photographers.
This year’s opening exhibition, titled “Nostalgia for Cities,” is curated by Nguyen The Son. He explains that the exhibition is designed as an “artistic transit station” where 19 cities “converse” through the stories of 30 artists. The exhibition does not focus on portraits of artists but highlights “portraits of cities,” exploring the ability of photography to create urban identity.

Photo Hanoi'25 is organized with a series of activities taking place at more than 20 locations, with the expectation of contributing to building Hanoi into a creative meeting place in the field of photography in Asia, as well as an attractive destination for the domestic and international visual art community.
Photo Hanoi'25 brings together more than 170 domestic and international artists, photographers, curators and experts, along with 25 accompanying professional organizations. Over the course of a month, the public will be able to enjoy 22 solo and group photography exhibitions completely free of charge, along with 29 side events ranging from seminars, workshops, art tours, book launches, film screenings...
