Although it was just inaugurated 20 days ago, the sidewalk of the flood prevention project in Thu Duc City (HCMC) was torn up and eroded after a heavy rain on the afternoon of May 15.

On the morning of May 16, many workers were urgently repaving the sidewalk on Vo Van Ngan and Kha Van Can streets (near Thu Duc market) that had been eroded after heavy rain.

According to records, some sidewalks on Vo Van Ngan Street in the Thu Duc Church area, Le Van Ninh Street, near Duong Van Cam intersection, have severe peeling and erosion.

At the sidewalk on Vo Van Ngan Street, workers said that the cause of the peeling sidewalk was the sewer draining directly onto the sidewalk, at a height of about 1.5 - 2m, causing sand from the sidewalk to be dug up, causing the tiles to peel off.

Meanwhile, on Kha Van Can Street, the sidewalk was torn up by the strong water flow, causing serious erosion. Currently, the contractor has mobilized digging machines to repave the sidewalk.

The contractor representative said that the sidewalk was paved with sand, and the rapid flow of water caused the tiles to peel off. According to this person, the sidewalk tiles were paved with sand, which was done in accordance with the bidding documents and regulations.

The representative of the Thu Duc City Construction Investment Project Management Board (the investor of the Vo Van Ngan Street Drainage System Construction Project) also confirmed that the sidewalk construction on Vo Van Ngan Street was done according to the design. Currently, the unit has requested the contractor to repair the peeling sidewalk section.

The sidewalk project is part of a drainage system construction project with a route length of about 2.5km. The sidewalk and curb are renewed to synchronize with the road surface, urban embellishment for the main road of Thu Duc City.

Previously, the rain on the evening of May 15th lasted for nearly 3 hours, causing many streets in Thu Duc City, such as Kha Van Can, Duong Van Cam, Dang Thi Ranh, To Ngoc Van (near Thu Duc market),... to be heavily flooded, with rushing water causing roads to break, manhole covers to pop up, and sidewalks to be severely eroded. Currently, functional units are reviewing and re-evaluating the entire flood prevention project in the area of Vo Van Ngan Street, Thu Duc market.
