On the evening of April 13, Nam Dinh Blue Steel was held to a 1-1 draw by Ho Chi Minh City Club at Thien Truong Stadium in round 18 of LPBank V-League 1 2024 - 2025.
However, the highlight of the match did not come from the goals scored but from the fierce collisions. This forced the main referee Nguyen Viet Duan to issue 2 red cards and 7 yellow cards during the match.
The first red card was given to Dao Quoc Gia of Ho Chi Minh City Club in the 81st minute. Referee Viet Duan thought that the Ho Chi Minh City player intentionally hit Tuan Anh in the face during an aerial challenge. The decision was made after he consulted VAR. However, it was still met with strong opposition from the away team's players and coaching staff.
Immediately after that, Bui Ngoc Long of Ho Chi Minh City made a malicious tackle on defender Van Vi in retaliation for the controversial red card. This situation led to a fierce fight between players from both sides and made the match tense in the final minutes.
VAR intervened again and the referee showed a second red card to Nam Dinh's foreign player Romulo. Along with three yellow cards to Ngoc Long, coach Vu Hong Viet and Phung Thanh Phuong.
Although only winning 1 point, Nam Dinh Club still firmly holds the top position with 35 points, 4 points more than the second-placed team, Hanoi Club.
