Tet Jobs: Recruiting 1,000 workers but only 3 people applied

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí08/02/2024

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Employment Service Center, in January, there were 9,814 cases of applying for unemployment benefits at the Center. This number shows that the number of workers applying for unemployment benefits in the month before Tet increased quite high, about 50% compared to the same period in 2023 (in January 2023, the Center received 6,109 applications).

Meanwhile, businesses' recruitment needs this month are very large, especially in labor-intensive industries such as garment and seasonal workers for Tet.

According to statistics on job seekers' needs - job search on the city's job portal, businesses posted 1,683 job postings for workers in the leather, footwear and garment industries, but only 112 people applied.

In the group of seasonal unskilled workers, the units need to recruit 1,910 people but only 56 people are looking for jobs. Notably, in the culinary industry, businesses need 972 people to meet the high demand for Tet but only 3 people apply.

At the Ho Chi Minh City Student Support Center, businesses also placed orders to recruit more than 4,000 part-time jobs during Tet for positions such as cashier, sales, counter processing, service, kitchen assistant, etc.

Shopping malls, supermarkets, convenience stores, etc. are also recruiting hundreds of seasonal employees with salaries three times higher than normal, but it is still very difficult to find workers.

On January 19, the Ho Chi Minh City Employment Service Center organized the first job fair in 2024 to connect labor supply and demand during the Lunar New Year.

The trading floor had 57 businesses participating in interviews with a need to recruit 6,286 job positions; of which, unskilled labor accounted for more than 30%, the leather, footwear and garment industry accounted for nearly 27%.

However, after 1 day of opening the trading session, only 620 workers participated in finding jobs.

To ensure adequate labor supply right after the Lunar New Year, from February 6 to February 29, the Ho Chi Minh City Employment Service Center will organize job consultation and introduction points at bus stations for workers from other provinces returning to Ho Chi Minh City to work.

The consulting points will promote to workers reputable job consulting and referral addresses to limit the situation of workers being scammed by unlicensed employment service providers, job brokers, etc.
