The Central Highlands Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology has just established a working group to support disease prevention and control after storms and floods in Hoa Thinh commune (Dak Lak province). At the same time, the organization provided chemical support for disease prevention and control to the Dak Lak Provincial Center for Disease Control.

The working delegation was led by Dr. Bui Khanh Toan, Deputy Director of the Central Highlands Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, along with the Institute's professional staff in the fields of epidemiology, infectious disease control, medical environment and health education and communication.

On November 24, 2025, the delegation was present in Hoa Thinh commune, an area heavily affected by floods and rains, with the potential risk of outbreaks of infectious diseases such as gastrointestinal diseases, mosquito-borne diseases, skin diseases, etc.

According to the plan, the working delegation of the Central Highlands Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology will work in the eastern region of Dak Lak province until November 29, 2025.

The working group was assigned to carry out many important tasks to minimize the risk of disease outbreaks after floods, including assessing the flood situation and disease risks in damaged areas. Supporting localities in implementing disease prevention measures, epidemiological surveillance and handling outbreaks if they occur. Ensuring environmental sanitation, disinfection and treatment of domestic water sources in flooded areas. Coordinating with medical forces to uniformly deploy professional activities.

According to preliminary assessments, after consecutive floods, the risk of outbreaks of infectious diseases such as diarrhea, skin diseases, dengue fever and waterborne diseases is on the rise in some areas of the province. The deployment of the working group is considered a timely measure to protect public health and minimize risks after natural disasters.

Previously, on November 23, 2025, the Ministry of Health issued an urgent dispatch requesting the Institutes of Hygiene and Epidemiology and the Pasteur Institute to urgently support localities in the Central Highlands - Central region to respond to the risk of disease outbreaks after prolonged heavy rains and floods. According to the assignment of the Ministry of Health, the Central Highlands Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology will directly support Dak Lak province in implementing measures to prevent and control epidemics after natural disasters.

The Ministry of Health requires institutes to strengthen professional activities such as: Organizing technical support teams, epidemiological surveillance, testing and handling outbreaks if they arise. Ensure that no disease outbreaks occur after floods. Timely report any difficulties and problems during the implementation process for the Ministry of Health to consider and resolve.

In addition to the Central Highlands Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, the Ministry of Health also assigned: the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology to support Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang and Quang Tri; the Nha Trang Pasteur Institute to support Khanh Hoa province; and the Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute to support Lam Dong and Gia Lai.

The Ministry of Health emphasized that support must be deployed urgently to minimize the risk of outbreaks of common infectious diseases after floods such as diarrhea, dengue fever, respiratory diseases and water-borne diseases.
