The book “Vietnam - The Resistance Genealogy” by journalist Gastón Fiorda was launched at the International Book Fair in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 2022.

Writer and journalist Gastón Fiorda, a Southeast Asian affairs expert for the Argentine National Radio (RNA), has just returned from a three-month trip to Vietnam to conduct research for his doctoral thesis. He expressed his admiration for the Vietnamese people's spirit of national liberation struggle and praised the good qualities of the Vietnamese people: bravery in the national liberation struggle; diligence and hard work in building and developing the country.

Talking to VNA reporters in Buenos Aires, journalist Fiorda said that with his research and practical experience of Vietnamese culture, he has extremely good impressions of the people, culture and country of Vietnam.

Journalist Fiorda expressed that during his time working in Vietnam, he truly felt the cultural customs, traditional family rituals and especially the hospitality of the Vietnamese people. With a very long process of researching and learning about the history, politics , culture, country and people of Vietnam, he said he wanted to feel the reality of Vietnam's history and spent time visiting many historical sites in the resistance wars against foreign invaders to protect the Fatherland of the Vietnamese people such as Dien Bien Phu and many historical and military museums in Hanoi.

He emphasized the importance of preserving and maintaining historical values and the tradition of fighting to protect the country against invaders for thousands of years of the Vietnamese people for future generations, and emphasized that this is one of the important values of national culture, patriotism needs to be passed down from generation to generation.

In Vietnamese society, journalist Fiorda was impressed by the tradition of respecting elders and family values. Vietnamese people always remember their ancestors, grandparents, parents, and the deceased. This is clearly shown in family activities, in death anniversaries with the full participation of relatives and children. The family is the cell of society, where each person is respected, loved and shared. He believes that this good cultural tradition needs to be preserved.

Writer and journalist Gastón Fiorda interviewed by VNA reporter

According to journalist Fiorda, in Vietnam, the civic and social responsibilities of the people are very great. People are interested in politics, in what is happening in the country and in the world. In dialogues and contacts, he felt the support and trust of the people in the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam on the path of building and developing the country.

He also highly appreciated the role of Vietnamese culture in the process of nation building, national defense and international integration. These characteristics have helped Vietnam build an independent, free and constantly integrated country, enhancing the country's position and role in the international arena under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Referring to the development path of Vietnamese culture proposed by the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party and the viewpoints and directions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on the development of Vietnamese culture, journalist Fiorda emphasized that in a globalized world, technological advances pose many challenges to preserving and promoting cultural traditions. He affirmed that the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam proposed to "focus on researching, identifying and implementing the construction of a national value system, a cultural value system and Vietnamese human standards associated with preserving and developing the Vietnamese family value system in the new era", demonstrating the clear recognition and correct direction of the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam on the importance of cultural characteristics in socio -economic development.

Regarding the guiding viewpoint of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong that "culture is the spiritual foundation of society, the endogenous strength of the country", journalist Fiorda emphasized that globalization leads to the risk of cultural homogenization, so it is necessary to educate young people about national history and culture, because each person needs to clearly understand where they come from, from which culture and from which country.

He said that with the admirable economic achievements that Vietnam has achieved in recent times, promoting and preserving national identity and culture is very necessary and the viewpoint that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong directed on cultural development is very suitable for the current stage of Vietnam.

Journalist Fiorda is the author of the book “Vietnam – The Genealogy of the Resistance” which was launched at the International Book Fair in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 2022. The book analyzes in depth the achievements of Vietnam in the process of national renewal in all fields, the correct choice of the path to socialism chosen by the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh. The role and position of Vietnam are increasingly enhanced in the international arena and Vietnam is a model of development in the world.

Journalist Fiorda, who is in charge of the Spanish program “Argentina Hello Vietnam”, a joint program between the National Radio of Argentina and the VOV5 Foreign Affairs Department of the Voice of Vietnam, won first prize at the 6th National Award for Foreign Information. He is also the first Latin American to receive a doctoral scholarship from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, with a research topic on the reconstruction of the Vietnamese people after the war.
