Vietnam - Cambodia: Joining hands to build a united, strong and prosperous ASEAN Community

On the afternoon of May 9, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on the occasion of attending the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his joy at meeting Prime Minister Hun Sen again and congratulated Cambodia on successfully organizing the Opening Ceremony of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32), contributing to enhancing the country's image in the eyes of regional and international friends.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh believes that Cambodia will successfully organize the election of the 7th National Assembly next July, contributing to enhancing Cambodia's position in the region and the world.

Prime Minister Hun Sen affirmed that Cambodia always attaches importance to the friendly neighborly relationship and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam. The Prime Minister thanked Vietnam for its attention, support and sending leaders to attend the opening ceremony of the SEA Games and was very moved to know that many Vietnamese people came to watch the 32nd SEA Games, contributing to the success of the Games.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Hun Sen thanked the General Secretary and Vietnamese leaders for sending their greetings to the Queen Mother, the King of Cambodia and the Prime Minister himself. At the same time, he respectfully sent his warm regards to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Vo Van Thuong, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and Vietnamese leaders.

Cooperation mechanisms have been effective, especially the High-level Meeting of the two Parties last February, the 20th Meeting of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Committee and the 12th Conference on Cooperation and Development of Vietnam-Cambodia Border Provinces which were successfully held.

The two sides agreed to effectively implement the agreements between the two countries; promote cooperation, connect the two economies, contribute to supporting each other in building an independent, self-reliant economy associated with deep, practical and effective international integration, especially in the context of an increasingly narrowing world market. The two sides agreed to create more favorable conditions for investment and business cooperation activities of enterprises of the two countries, especially in areas such as border trade, cooperation in economic development in border areas, education and training, etc.

The two sides also agreed to closely and effectively coordinate to join hands in building a united, strong and prosperous ASEAN Community.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully invited Prime Minister Hun Sen to soon visit Vietnam again.
