Vietnam - France expand cooperation in education, artificial intelligence, clean energy

On May 27, French President Emmanuel Macron, his wife and Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan visited the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH).

Speaking to students and lecturers of the school, the French President emphasized that theeducation sector is one of the important pillars in bilateral relations between the two countries.

The French President said that to date, more than 15,000 engineers, more than 3,000 doctors, and thousands of legal experts from Vietnam have been trained in France. Mr. Emmanuel Macron was also pleased to announce that the two countries will sign a new agreement on education to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in this field.

Assessing that the world is undergoing many changes with strong transitions of humanity that his generation has never seen, the French President emphasized that these are geopolitical changes with wars occurring in many regions, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of many countries are threatened.

"Rules and laws in international cooperation are no longer followed as before; freedom of navigation and maritime sovereignty are causing concern for many countries, and the tariff situation is fluctuating. Therefore, the connection between Vietnam and France, ASEAN and the EU needs more attention than ever," said the French President.

President Macron affirmed that the two countries have common interests in establishing geopolitical balance and peace, ensuring security. In that context, Vietnam and France need to pursue a common goal: re-establishing cooperative relations for peace and common prosperity.

The two countries need to promote the development of education, science, technology, innovation, healthcare, and defense to reduce dependence on other countries and regions; move towards prosperity to combat climate change and avoid biodiversity imbalances.

According to French President Emmanuel Macron, Vietnam is a large economy, among middle-income countries, and to promote development, the young generation, Vietnamese scientists and researchers need to address challenges such as: raising awareness of climate change, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing carbon dependence, protecting ecosystems, etc.

"We must ensure both the economy and the ecosystem, have a clean, green and sustainable economic development model to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050; move towards cleaner, greener consumption and production for the environment. This is also the focus of cooperation between Vietnam and France," President Emmanuel Macron stated.

The French President also mentioned the field of high-tech applications, artificial intelligence (AI), emphasizing that AI can help people go faster and stronger but cannot replace humans.

"France wants to cooperate with Vietnam in the fields of AI, renewable energy, digital technology, robotics, and automation. Vietnam and France need to share a common vision in these fields. France will continue to support Vietnam in training talents. From now until 2030, France will double the number of exchange students between the two countries," President Emmanuel Macron affirmed.

During the talk, French President Emmanuel Macron openly shared and answered questions from Vietnamese students and intellectuals about technological transformation, skills development for young people, support for students studying abroad in France, and cooperation in the field of architecture between Vietnam and France.

The French President emphasized the process of self-study, cultivating and practicing skills; enhancing prestige and integrity in scientific research, increasing critical thinking capacity but needing to rely on core humanistic values.
