On the evening of April 20, Vietnam time, at the Cuban National Assembly in the capital Havana, President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernández presided over a solemn welcoming ceremony for National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.
The Chairman of the Cuban National Assembly affirmed that he always values and wishes to further deepen the special traditional relationship and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam.
He thanked the Party, State and People of Vietnam for their solidarity, sincere support, selfless and pure assistance to the Cuban Revolution, in the cause of protecting, building and developing the country, especially in the current difficult time through visits, encouragement and support both spiritually and materially.
National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam have full confidence that the Cuban people, under the leadership of the Party and State of Cuba, will continue to achieve many new achievements on the path of protecting and building a prosperous and happy socialist Cuba.
The two leaders discussed the overall bilateral agenda and agreed on measures to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in general and the two National Assemblies in particular.
The two leaders were pleased with the vibrant and substantial development of the special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba in the context of the complicated developments in the world situation in recent times. The good political -diplomatic relations, solidarity, closeness and trust between the two countries continued to be consolidated and developed, maintaining regular and flexible dialogue at the highest level in all three channels of Party diplomacy, State diplomacy, National Assembly diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy.
Relations between the two legislative bodies are being promoted in a practical and effective manner. Economic, trade and investment relations continue to develop positively and diversely in many areas such as agriculture and food security, consumer goods production, clean energy, etc. Security and defense cooperation continues to be strengthened in the spirit of comradeship and brotherhood.
Cooperation in the fields of culture, education, science, technology and between central and local levels is increasingly in-depth, substantive and diverse.
The two National Assembly Chairmen agreed to continue to closely coordinate in the coming time to increase delegation exchanges at all levels and regularly maintain cooperation mechanisms.
The two sides also agreed to continue supporting policies to support businesses to increase investment in areas suitable to the needs, conditions and capacity of each country; effectively implementing projects to develop rice, corn and seafood production in Cuba....
On this occasion, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, on behalf of the Party, State and People of Vietnam, announced the decision to present the Cuban people with a gift of 5,000 tons of rice and symbolically present tablets to the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels of Cuba (the Vietnamese National Assembly donated 300 tablets).
Immediately after the talks, the two leaders also witnessed the signing ceremony and exchange of cooperation documents between ministries and branches.
The two countries’ parliaments also signed a cooperation agreement. The two sides will promote experience sharing and relations through the activities of parliamentary friendship groups; support the strengthening of connections with parliamentary friendship groups in Asia and Latin America; and consult and coordinate positions on issues of mutual concern between delegations of the two sides within the framework of international parliamentary organizations.
Coordinate the monitoring and urging of the implementation of international treaties and bilateral international agreements signed by the two countries; periodically exchange information; develop human resources through experience exchange in possible forms; promote support and solidarity activities between the parties.
The two sides will hold high-level bilateral inter-parliamentary meetings chaired by the National Assembly Chairman or Vice Chairman every two years, alternating at the headquarters of each country.
After the talks, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue presented the Ho Chi Minh Order to Cuban National Assembly Chairman Esteban Lazo Hernández. This is the second highest order of Vietnam, recognizing the great contributions of National Assembly Chairman Esteban Lazo Hernández in consolidating and developing the special friendship between the two Parties, two National Assemblies and peoples of the two countries.
National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue presented the Friendship Medal to the Vice President of the Cuban National Assembly, Secretary General of the Cuban National Assembly and Council of State, and Chairman of the Cuban National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee for their active contributions to promoting the traditional friendship and special cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba.
President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernández expressed "deep emotion and gratitude" when the Party and State of Vietnam awarded him the Ho Chi Minh Order and the Friendship Order.
The President of the Cuban National Assembly shared his admiration for President Ho Chi Minh, who proved that no force can divide a strong-willed nation no matter how great the difficulties and challenges it faces.
"We have learned a lot from the wisdom and courage of the Vietnamese people. When we say Vietnam - Cuba, united, certain to win, we are talking about solidarity in its highest sense," said the National Assembly Chairman.
