Vietnam continues to hold the top position in the World Vovinam Championship

TPO - The 8th World Vovinam Championship 2025 held in Bali (Indonesia) has ended with the overall top spot belonging to the Vietnamese Vovinam team.

The 8th WVVF World Vovinam Championships 2025 will take place in Bali, Indonesia, from November 2 to 7, 2025. This 8th tournament will have the participation of more than 600 athletes from 26 countries and territories with developed Vovinam movements in 4 continents: Asia, Europe, Africa, and Oceania. Athletes will compete in 45 sets of martial arts and combat medals, including 26 martial arts events and 19 combat weight classes.

This pinnacle sporting event is not only a place for the world's best martial artists to compete, but also carries a historic mission: to realize the Olympic dream for Vietnam's traditional martial arts.

This is the most important playground for the world's top martial artists to demonstrate their talent, technique and martial spirit. For national teams, especially the Vietnamese Vovinam team, the tournament is an opportunity to affirm their leading position, after the successes in national tournaments in 2025.

This year, the Vietnamese Vovinam team registered 39 athletes to participate in the events for combat and performance. With the progress of the countries, the competitions were intense and fierce. The athletes had to work hard to be able to win in the end.

The race for the top 3 overall team belongs to 3 countries with large investment and participation force. In which, Algeria and Cambodia compete with each other until the last event to determine the top 3 position. Accordingly, the 3rd place overall belongs to Cambodia with 7 gold medals, 11 silver medals, 5 bronze medals. The second place belongs to Algeria with 9 gold medals, 10 silver medals, 5 bronze medals.

After 4 days of competition, the Vietnamese Vovinam team won 24 gold medals and 1 silver medal to defend their top position.

Assessing the quality of the tournament, Master Florin Macovei - Permanent Vice President of the World Vovinam Federation said: "This year's tournament has many sports powerhouses such as Japan, Korea, Iran, France, and Algeria participating. Notably, the two martial arts powerhouses Japan and Korea have significantly improved the quality of their athletes. We believe that the quality and quantity of athletes will increase further in the future as countries are investing in developing Vovinam." The 9th World Vovinam Championship in 2027 is expected to take place in Algeria. In 2015, the World Vovinam Championship was also held in this African country.

The Executive Committee Conference of the Southeast Asian Vovinam Federation took place in Bali

On the afternoon of November 7, in Buleleng, Bali (Indonesia), the Southeast Asia Vovinam Federation (SEAVF) Executive Committee Conference was held on the occasion of the 8th Vovinam World Championship taking place in Bali.

The conference focused on discussing, adjusting and supplementing the personnel of the new Executive Committee. Attending the conference were representatives of the SEAVF Executive Committee from 5 member countries including Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar and the Philippines, under the supervision of Mr. Florin Macovei, Permanent Vice President of the World Vovinam Federation (WVVF).

At the conference, delegates unanimously elected Mr. Ou Ratana, President of the Cambodian Vovinam Federation, to hold the position of President of the Southeast Asian Vovinam Federation. Mr. I Nyoman Yamadhiputra (Indonesia) was elected to hold the position of Permanent Vice President and General Secretary of SEAVF.

The Vice Presidents of the Southeast Asian Vovinam Federation include: Mr. Nguyen Binh Dinh (Vietnam), Mr. Jop Malonzo (Philippines), Mr. U Ye Mint (Myanmar), Mr. Santipharp Intaraphartn (Thailand).

In addition, Ms. Dolly Khin Lay Mon was appointed as Deputy Secretary General of the Southeast Asian Vovinam Federation. Notably, the conference also agreed to choose Cambodia as the host country of the 2026 Asian Vovinam Championship, marking a new development step for the Vovinam movement in the region.

This conference is considered an important milestone, contributing to strengthening the organization and promoting the Vovinam movement in Southeast Asia, aiming to expand the influence of Vietnamese martial arts in the international arena.
