Citing statistics from the Singapore Enterprise Authority, the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore said that Vietnam is currently the third largest rice supplier in the Singapore market, holding a high market share in the white rice (10063099) and milled/hulled fragrant rice (10063070) groups.

In the first 6 months of this year, the import value of rice products in general (1006) from Vietnam to Singapore reached 60.9 million SGD, down 17.1% over the same period in 2024, accounting for 24.5% of the total market share of imported rice in this market.

Although the size of the Singapore market has not changed significantly, in terms of import value, the total value of Vietnam's rice imports into Singapore decreased by 17.1% over the same period, possibly due to a decrease in rice export prices compared to 2024.

According to a report by the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , the average export price of Vietnamese rice in the first half of 2025 is estimated at 517.5 USD/ton, down 18.4% over the same period in 2024.

Currently, white rice (10063099) is the group with the highest import value among Vietnam's rice product groups in the Singapore market, in the first 6 months of this year, reaching 38.6 million SGD, an increase of 11.9% over the same period in 2024, accounting for 29.6% of the market share.

According to statistics from the Singapore Corporate Governance Authority, white rice (10063099) is a group in which Singapore has a high level of diversity in foreign supply sources (over 20 partner countries). However, Vietnam's market share in this group is currently second only to India (60.9 million SGD, accounting for 46.7% of the market share).

In addition to white rice, Vietnam has two other groups with high import value to the Singapore market: fragrant milled/hulled rice (10063070) and glutinous rice (10063030). The import value in the first 6 months of the year of these two rice groups reached 15.5 million USD and 4.7 million USD, respectively, accounting for 57% and 61% of the import market share in Singapore. Although the import value of these two groups from Vietnam to Singapore continues to show signs of decreasing compared to the same period in 2024, Vietnam is still temporarily holding the leading position in the import source of these two groups to Singapore.

According to the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore, in the first 6 months of 2025, the total value of rice imports from the world to Singapore reached about 248.9 million SGD, an increase of 10.8% over the same period in 2024. At the same time, the demand for main types of rice, in the first 6 months of 2025, Singapore continued to boost the import of white rice (10063099), worth up to 130 million SGD (an increase of 83.7% over the same period in 2024), this group accounted for nearly 52.4% of the total rice import proportion (1006) of Singapore.

In second place in terms of demand is Hom Mali white rice (10063040), with an import value of SGD 44.2 million (up 11.8%), accounting for 17.8% of the proportion. Next is the group of milled/hulled fragrant rice (10063070), with an import value of SGD 27.1 million (down 31%), accounting for 10.9% of the proportion. The remaining rice groups have a total import value of about SGD 29.4 million, accounting for no more than 4% of each group and most of them are showing a downward trend in value (from -14% to nearly -47%), except for two groups of brown rice (10062090 and 10062010) which recorded an increase in import (5.1% and 7.4% respectively).

Regarding partners, in the first 6 months of this year, India is currently the largest rice supplier to the Singapore market with an import value of 87.8 million SGD, accounting for 35.3% of the total imported rice market share. Regarding rice from India, Singapore currently focuses on importing two main groups: white rice (10063099) and parboiled rice (10063091).

Thailand is currently the second largest rice supplier to the Singapore market with an import value of SGD 76.2 million, accounting for 30.6% of the market share. Unlike rice from India, Singapore currently focuses on importing Hom Mali white rice (10063040) from Thailand.

The Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore believes that with the size of the imported rice market in Singapore remaining stable, Vietnamese rice will continue to face great competition from similar products from India, Thailand and Japan.

The Singaporean Government's proposal to sign a bilateral rice trade agreement with Vietnam may contribute to stabilizing rice exports to Singapore in the coming time./.
