Specifically, 2 VinFast VF e34s were discovered around Pandan Indah and Penchala in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The photographer believes that this VinFast VF e34 may be used in an internal test before the Vietnamese car company officially distributes it in the Malaysian market, one of the places that uses left-hand drive cars. After entering the US and European markets, the Vietnamese car company has continuously planned to enter countries in the ASEAN region with right-hand drive, which may be the main reason for the appearance of the VinFast VF e34 electric car pair on the streets of Kuala Lumpur. Previously, the VinFast VF e34 electric car was officially launched in the Indonesian market, 1 month after its launch at the Indonesian auto show (IIMS 2024). However, the car has some different details in terms of equipment compared to the car currently distributed in Vietnam. It is currently unclear what configuration and equipment the model about to be launched in the Malaysian market will use.

The electric vehicle sector has been identified as a key growth driver in Malaysia, with the government planning to install 10,000 charging stations by 2025. The country has the third-largest automotive industry in Southeast Asia after Indonesia and Thailand, with the auto sector contributing about 4% to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2021. A number of incentives have sparked interest from manufacturers to bring their electric vehicles to Malaysia, including world leader Tesla. VinFast is planning to launch there soon, as the country was among the left-hand drive markets it mentioned when it announced its factory in Indonesia.

In 2023, electric vehicle sales in Malaysia reached 10,159 units, an increase of 286% compared to 2022, and hybrid gasoline vehicles also increased by 40%. These are all numbers showing the positive reception of green energy vehicles by Malaysians, opening up opportunities for Vietnamese car company VinFast.
