The stock market on April 22 traded in red with a slow amplitude. Suddenly entering the early afternoon session, a series of stocks were sold off heavily, plummeting and causing the VN-Index to drop nearly 70 points at one point. The VN30-Index even lost more than 74 points.
However, the decline was then narrowed when green returned to the price chart. At the end of the trading session, the VN-Index fell 9.94 points, or 0.82%, to 1,197.13 points. Similarly, the HNX-Index fell 3.76 points, or 1.78%, to 207.71 points, although it fell more than 11 points at one point during the session.

If the cash flow was low in the morning session, the sharp decline in the afternoon session stimulated buying power, increasing liquidity. In total, more than 1.7 billion shares and fund certificates were traded on the HOSE floor with a value of more than VND 34,106 billion, nearly double that of yesterday. On the HNX floor, the trading value was also more than VND 1,925 billion, nearly double that of yesterday, and the trading value on UPCoM exceeded VND 835 billion, 2.2 times higher.
A series of blue-chip stocks on the HOSE increased again when the market closed such as HPG, VHM, VRE, VCB, STB, MSN, MWG, STB, LPB... This had a positive impact, helping the VN30-Index to only decrease slightly by 3.91 points.
The sudden sell-off in early afternoon trading was seen as a negative reaction to Bloomberg news that the US had announced high tariffs on solar panels imported from Southeast Asia. Unnamed companies in Vietnam will be subject to tariffs of up to 395.9%, while Thailand will face 375.2% and Malaysia will face 34.4%. Even Cambodian solar panels will face tariffs as high as 3,521%... These tariffs are still subject to the decision of the US International Trade Commission, which is expected to reach a conclusion in about a month on whether domestic manufacturers are being harmed or threatened by imports.
The sell-off only lasted for a short time, causing many investors to regret losing their stocks at the end of the session. While the above information only affected 1-2 businesses, perhaps pessimism appeared when the US stock market closed the first session of the week on April 21 (early morning of April 22, Vietnam time) plummeting. At the close, the Dow Jones index fell 971.82 points, equivalent to a decrease of 2.48%, to 38,170.41 points; the S&P 500 index fell 2.36%, to 5,158.2 points and the Nasdaq lost 2.55% to 15,870.9 points...
