VPUB – Ceremony to announce the Index for assessing the implementation results of Free Trade Agreements (FTA Index)

Dienbien.gov.vn – This afternoon (April 8), the Ministry of Industry and Trade coordinated with the Government Office to organize a conference to announce the FTA Index for 2024. Attending the ceremony were Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son and leaders of central ministries and branches; local leaders and representatives of embassies, international organizations and business associations.

At the ceremony, the Ministry of Industry and Trade announced the results of the survey and assessment of the implementation of FTA Indexes in localities, the level of access to information about FTA Indexes by the business community, the effectiveness of programs and policies to support businesses in taking advantage of FTA Indexes, the implementation of sustainable development commitments in FTA Indexes in localities, the difficulties and obstacles that localities and businesses encounter in the process of implementing and taking advantage of FTA Indexes...

The survey focuses on four main aspects: The level of access to information about the FTA Index by enterprises; the compliance with domestic legal regulations from the FTA Index commitments; the effectiveness of programs and policies to support enterprises in taking advantage of the FTA Index; and the implementation of sustainable development commitments in the FTA Indexes at the local level, while recording the difficulties and obstacles that enterprises are facing. The FTA Index aims to provide a transparent and objective database for the Government, central and local agencies in directing, supervising and operating integration work; supporting localities in evaluating the implementation results of the FTA Index according to the proposed action program; and at the same time, it is the basis for planning policies and development strategies suitable to the conditions and potentials of each locality.

The index also contributes to raising awareness and promoting the proactive participation of the business community in taking advantage of opportunities from FTAs, improving the quality of implementing business support programs, as well as testing tools to measure the effectiveness of international economic integration in a more scientific and practical way.

Currently, Vietnam has negotiated, signed and implemented 17 FTA Index with more than 60 partners across the continents, making an important contribution to the development of Vietnam's economy. Promoting international and regional economic integration, including participation in free trade agreements, has become a consistent policy of Vietnam in recent times...

For Dien Bien province, there is currently an international economic integration relationship on import and export of goods and border trade with the provinces of Northern Laos and Yunnan province - China. The total import and export turnover of goods, services and border trade activities of Dien Bien province in 2024 is estimated at 139.96 million USD, an increase of 8.21% compared to the previous year (of which: exports are estimated at 93.35 million USD with main items being construction materials, consumer goods, agricultural products; imports are estimated at 46.61 million USD with main items being machinery and equipment, agricultural and forestry products of all kinds, etc.).

In recent times, policies and guidelines related to Free Trade Agreements have been deployed and implemented by Dien Bien province, integrating tasks in related fields, coordinating the implementation of local political tasks, ensuring socio-economic development, maintaining political security, social order and safety, ensuring the legitimate rights and interests of people and businesses. Thereby, it has contributed to important achievements in socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security of the province...

On this occasion, the Ministry of Industry and Trade awarded Certificates of Merit to 8 provinces and cities with good results in evaluating the implementation results of the FTA Index Agreements in 2024, including Dien Bien province; awarded Certificates of Merit to 14 provinces and cities with good results in evaluating the implementation results of the FTA Index Agreements in 2024 for component indicators and the Prime Minister awarded Certificates of Merit to 5 provinces and cities with achievements in evaluating the implementation results of the FTA Index Agreements in 2024./.
