Binh Thuan's Vu Dinh Duan finished after 2 hours 05 minutes 59 seconds, 5 minutes ahead of the runner-up, successfully defending his solo championship title at DNSE Aquaman Vietnam 2023.
At 5:00 a.m. on October 29, Vu Dinh Duan was present at the DNSE Aquaman Vietnam starting area in Phan Thiet. At 6:00 a.m., he dove into the sea with the first group of athletes - those who were capable of competing for the prize. After 34 minutes and 40 seconds, Duan left the Aquaman solo swim in third place.
This ranking was within the expectations of the male athlete from Quang Ninh . "I know I cannot compete with veteran athletes and coaches in this sport, so I only swam at 80% of my strength and focused on my strength, which is running," Duân said after the finish line.

Returning to Aquaman Vietnam for the second time, Duân still maintained his calm style of competition. Not rushing in the transition area, he carefully listened to his body and observed his opponents. Seeing an opportunity, taking advantage of his experience and marathon strength, Duân accelerated past the second person, then left the first person behind in the first kilometer and maintained the lead until the finish line.
Competing in the running part in temperatures of about 30 degrees Celsius, with sunshine, wind and many steep sections, the champion's performance decreased by 7 minutes compared to season one. "Last year my average speed was 3:45 pace. This year it was more than 4 pace. The speed decreased significantly, partly because the opponent did not follow closely, and also to ensure safety, not to get cramps when climbing and descending hills," he said.
The athlete from Quang Ninh said that the course was challenging, but in return, the swimming course was beautiful and the sea was calm, giving him a refreshing feeling, without stress in looking at the path or dealing with the waves. "The arrangement of the inverted triangle swimming path helps athletes easily see the buoy when breathing on the right side, avoiding swimming astray or going over the path," Duân said. In addition, dividing the starting line and swimming with less turning around helps the champion easily pass because he is not hindered by athletes competing in other distances.

Duân assessed that this victory was partly due to luck. DNSE Aquaman Vietnam 2023 brings together many athletes and coaches at the national swimming, running and triathlon team levels. However, they compete in distances and events such as Aquaman relay, Half Aqua and Sprint Aqua. The person who competed with him until the last meters in last year's tournament was Vo Xuan Vinh, who did not participate this year due to his duties with the national team.
Successfully defending the championship title at Duân once again affirmed his position in the aquathlon event. Last year's championship was the inspiration for the athlete born in 1997 to find his way to the SEA Games, winning a bronze medal. This time, it is the motivation for him to continue competing, changing the color of the medal in the regional arena.
Vu Dinh Duan (26 years old, Quang Ninh), has trained and competed professionally in athletics in the military since 2012. However, for many reasons, he retired from his athletic career 4 years later. More than a year after retiring, Duan returned to marathon races. The male athlete emerged in the amateur running community with top achievements in his age group in races, and the championship of VnExpress Marathon Hanoi Midnight 2022.
