Nearly 100 children absent from school: Department of Education and Training proposes temporarily halting school mergers.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - To ensure the rights of children and the curriculum, the Nghe An Department of Education and Training has requested Thien Nhan commune to temporarily suspend the merger of Branch 2 into Trung Phuc Cuong 2 Primary School.

On the afternoon of September 11th, Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoan, Chief of the Office of the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An province, stated that the Department had issued an urgent document regarding the petition from parents of students at Branch 2 of Trung Phuc Cuong 2 Primary School.

According to a representative from the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, to ensure stability and facilitate the implementation of the new administrative model, the department has requested the People's Committee of Thien Nhan commune (Nghe An) to direct Trung Phuc Cuong 2 Primary School to temporarily suspend the merger of branch 2 with branch 1.

The Nghe An Department of Education and Training requested the Thien Nhan Commune People's Committee to direct the school to prepare the necessary facilities and other conditions; and to continue to disseminate information and encourage parents and students to participate. The merger will be implemented when all parents and students of Branch 2 of Trung Phuc Cuong 2 Primary School agree.

Before the start of the 2025-2026 school year, to facilitate teaching and learning and improve the quality of education, at the suggestion of Trung Phuc Cuong 2 Primary School, the People's Committee of Thien Nhan Commune decided to merge branch 2 into the main school.

Accordingly, 196 students/5 grade levels (children from Quang Xa hamlet, Thien Nhan commune) will transfer to the main school (Duong Pho hamlet, Thien Nhan commune), more than 1km away from the old location, to continue their studies.

However, this plan did not receive the approval of parents of students at branch campus 2 due to concerns about the long commute to school and potential safety risks for students. The parents subsequently submitted a petition to the school leadership, local authorities, and the Department of Education and Training proposing that branch campus 2 not be merged with the main school.

In protest against the merger, many parents did not send their children to school. On the morning of September 11th, nearly 100 students from Quang Xa hamlet had not yet gone to school.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Chinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thien Nhan commune, students have to pass through Cau Coi intersection to get from branch school 2 to the main school.

Due to parents' concerns about safety risks, the local authorities requested the Thien Nhan Commune Police to deploy traffic control personnel at this intersection.

Thien Nhan commune is also planning to propose to the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee the installation of a traffic signal system at the Cau Coi intersection to ensure the safety of residents and students during their commute.
