Fostering the long-standing traditional friendship between Vietnam and Japan

At the reception for Vietnamese and Japanese students participating in the Youth Ambassador Program, held on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations (afternoon of January 16), Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang emphasized that cultural similarities and historical connections are the natural glue that binds the two nations and is a sustainable foundation for the development of Vietnam-Japan relations.

The Deputy Prime Minister recalled the memory of enjoying the opera "Princess Anio" in Hanoi with Crown Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko in late September 2023; or further back, the Dong Du Movement with about 200 young people going to Japan to study, showing that the relationship between the two countries was built a long time ago on the basis of cultural and trade exchanges and the relationships between the two peoples.

Citing statistics showing that Vietnam currently has 51,000 international students in Japan, ranking second in the number of international students in the "land of cherry blossoms", the Deputy Prime Minister hopes that the Program will develop further so that more and more students have the opportunity to visit and study in Vietnam and Japan.

The Deputy Prime Minister hopes that students will strive to study hard to become knowledgeable people, and train themselves to become kind people, good citizens, and useful citizens to serve their country and at the same time foster the long-standing traditional friendship between Vietnam and Japan.

Sharing life experiences with students, the Deputy Prime Minister said that every individual who wants to succeed must make efforts, try to overcome themselves, and at the same time must have great ambitions and desires because this helps create motivation to strive to rise up.

From his own experience, the Deputy Prime Minister shared that in life as well as in work, one must know how to share with others because when facing difficulties, one will receive support and help, and when one knows how to share, one will learn many things. Besides, life also needs luck.

Sharing his thoughts on diplomacy, the Deputy Prime Minister said that the first thing is to have a heart for the profession you follow; to grow up, you have to study for life, but with diplomacy, the speed must be faster to meet the requirements. Along with that, diplomats must be confident when sharing their stories with international friends, and to do so, they must contribute to the development of the country.

The "Youth Ambassador" program has been organized by the Aeon 1% Club Foundation since 1990 in Japan and other countries with the aim of enhancing affection and mutual understanding between the young generation of Japan and other countries through sightseeing activities, learning about history and culture. To date, the program has been organized 43 times, attracting nearly 2,500 high school students from 18 countries to participate, including 4 times in Vietnam.
In 2023, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations, the Program will be held in Japan from November 13-18, 2023 and in Vietnam from January 15-20, 2024 with the participation of 50 Vietnamese students and 50 Japanese students.
