On Ong Thai peak, village 2 (Tra Leng commune), the house of Mr. Dao Van Thuan and his wife was completely destroyed by landslide on the afternoon of October 26. The remaining wooden panels and corrugated iron roof were just enough to identify the place where the whole family used to live. As soon as the rain stopped, Mr. Thuan went down to the village to buy a plot of land from an acquaintance, choosing a flat location and outside the landslide risk area.
“Up to now, my family has received 85 million VND from benefactors and emergency support from the local government. In a recent meeting with the Commune People's Committee, I was also informed that I would receive an additional 100 million VND in support from the State. Collecting usable materials and local authorities assessing the safety of the chosen land location, my wife and I are determined to rebuild our new house before Tet,” said Mr. Thuan.
Similarly, Mr. Ho Van Linh, Commander of the Military Command of Tra Leng Commune, had his house collapse on the evening of October 26. The incident happened when Mr. Linh was with the commune's shock force to help evacuate people from the danger zone. Notably, he had just built this house in 2023, with a cost of nearly 500 million VND, of which he had borrowed about 300 million VND.
“The loan from the old house had not yet been paid off when the house collapsed. But fortunately, with support from the government, businesses, and philanthropists, my family had the opportunity to stabilize their housing after the natural disaster. Instead of waiting, I bought a new, flat piece of land in a safer location,” said Mr. Linh.

In Tra Tan commune, among 16 households whose houses were completely collapsed in the recent storms, 11 households proactively sought new land immediately after the disaster. Many households took the time to survey the location, avoiding slopes that had cracks during the floods. Up to now, the amount of money each household has received from benefactors has been over 100 million VND/household, plus 100 million VND in support from the State, creating conditions for people to soon stabilize their housing.

Mr. Pham Xuan Bi, in Ngoc Giac village, Tra Tan commune, shared that the households whose houses were damaged agreed to let the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tra Tan commune temporarily keep all the support money to use for house construction. The purpose is to ensure transparency and avoid loss during the time in temporary housing.
Settling down before Tet
According to Mr. Chau Minh Nghia, Chairman of Tra Leng Commune People's Committee, storm No. 12 completely collapsed 16 houses in the area, damaged 21 houses, and cut off many inter-commune roads for a long time.
Along with supporting and repairing damaged houses and stabilizing temporary housing for people, the locality is urgently building resettlement for 16 households that have completely lost their homes.
The People's Committee of Tra Leng Commune has just organized a consultation with households to build houses before the Lunar New Year 2026. The biggest difficulty is still finding a new location to build a house. Currently, only a few households are actively looking for new land, the rest rely on government support.
[ VIDEO ] - Mr. Chau Minh Nghia, Chairman of Tra Leng Commune People's Committee shared about the difficulties in implementing resettlement for 16 households in the area:
Many people still do not want to move to a new place because they do not want to leave their old village, which is inconvenient for living, production and business.
“The locality will create the best conditions for people to have a new, safer place to live. If we go to a residential area, we will work with the village chief to arrange a suitable location; and if we choose a production area, we will mobilize people to give up their land, compensate for trees or sell them at a reasonable price. The remaining task of the commune is to survey and assess the safety level before allowing construction.
When starting to build a house, people must commit to ensuring the progress of completing the house before the Lunar New Year 2026. For households with labor difficulties, the locality is ready to mobilize shock forces to support," said Mr. Nghia.
Local authorities require households to commit to using the money for the right purpose, building houses according to designs that ensure long-term stability. People can take advantage of materials when demolishing old houses; exchange labor within the village to reduce construction costs.

Mr. Le Minh Chien, Chairman of Tra Tan Commune People's Committee, said that among the 16 completely collapsed houses, 11 households on Ong Yen peak have land in the resettlement area according to Resolution 23 of the People's Council of Quang Nam province (old). The locality will work directly with the households to arrange land and start building houses as soon as possible, completing before Lunar New Year 2026.
