Senior Lieutenant Trinh Van Chuc, Deputy Captain of Ship BP 28-01-61 and Second Lieutenant Tran Van Tan, Deputy Captain of Ship BP 28-01-62, Squadron 1 are two of many outstanding young party members of Border Guard Squadron 28. Due to the nature of his work and his stationing in his home village, Chuc only returns home once a year. “I am always ready to follow the organization’s orders and go anywhere when the mission requires it. Tet holidays away from home, even Tet celebrations on ships in the middle of the ocean, have become familiar to me and my teammates,” Chuc shared.

Ship BP 28-01-62, Border Guard Squadron 28 (Border Guard) patrols at sea.

Lieutenant Tran Van Tan, although only 24 years old, always shows a spirit of not being afraid of difficulties and hardships. In September 2024, after graduating from the Border Defense major (Naval Academy), the young officer Tran Van Tan returned to take up his duties at Border Defense Squadron 28. Lieutenant Tran Van Tan confided: “I am from Dong Thap , although there is no sea or island, since I was a child I dreamed of becoming a border defense officer. Achieving my wish, I am even more honored and proud, always striving to complete all tasks well.”

Despite facing many difficulties when carrying out their duties at sea, the young officers were not discouraged. Senior Lieutenant Trinh Van Chuc and Second Lieutenant Tran Van Tan directly participated in the squadrons carrying out patrol and control duties at sea; there were periods of duty on ships lasting about 3-4 months, many days away from the mainland, facing many difficulties and challenges. Second Lieutenant Tran Van Tan shared more: “There were periods of long sea trips, to save water, we limited bathing and from there thought of “wind bathing” - that is, standing in front of the ship so that when a cool breeze blew in, it would cool the sweat and make the body drier. Although the life of a soldier is hard, there are memories and joys that are very simple like that.”

Patrolling and fighting against commercial fraud and illegal petrol and oil smuggling always face many difficulties and challenges. Because these subjects are increasingly sophisticated, as well as potentially dangerous when they act rashly, or when the sea is rough. However, in their positions, Senior Lieutenant Trinh Van Chuc and Second Lieutenant Tran Van Tan have managed, motivated, and supported officers and soldiers to overcome difficulties to complete their tasks well. They always encourage their comrades on board to maintain their bravery, promptly detect, and effectively handle situations that occur at sea in accordance with the Party's policies and viewpoints, the direction of the Ministry of National Defense and the Border Guard Command.

Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Van Nghiem, Political Commissar of Border Guard Squadron 28, said that since 2020, the unit has organized patrols, controls, and detected 49 violations of regulations on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing; conducted mobile propaganda for more than 120 ships, with more than 1,300 fishermen; presented fishermen with more than 200 national flags, 2,000 leaflets, and 1,200 video tapes; and detected 26 cases of transporting more than 700,000 liters of DO oil of unknown origin. To achieve these results, in the past time, the unit's Party Committee has organized to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement directives from all levels in managing and protecting the maritime border; advised the Party Committee, the Border Guard Command, and local authorities to effectively handle arising situations. Along with that, the unit has built a spirit of solidarity, promoting the collective strength of cadres, employees, soldiers, especially the young party members. That is the "secret" for Border Guard Squadron 28 to always firmly overcome many difficulties, challenges, and dangers to perform all tasks well.
