"Overcoming the sun, overcoming the rain" at the 500kV power line construction site

In the blazing early summer sun, we were present at the construction site of the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line, the section passing through Luc Yen district. Amidst the majestic mountains, giant steel pillars are proudly standing against the blue sky. Hundreds of people work in "3 shifts, 4 shifts", forgetting their days off, braving the rain and sun to build a project of national stature.

2:00 p.m., the sun was blazing hot. At the location of VT168 column, in Vinh Lac commune, the working atmosphere was still bustling and urgent. The construction team of 15 technical staff and workers of Song Da 11 Joint Stock Company in the North divided the work among themselves: some tied the steel, some mixed the concrete, some did the technical inspection, each person was an important link in the smooth construction machine.
Ms. Hoang Thi Man - a short-term contract worker, still steadily ties the steel wires on the foundation. Her face is covered in sweat, her protective clothing is dark, her hands are nimble, her eyes shine with perseverance. "The weather is hot many days, but we still go to work full time, even in the evening, on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays. No one is bothered, everyone knows that this is a big project, it must be completed on schedule" - Ms. Man shared.
Not far away, Ms. Trieu Thi Dieu, 40 years old, a Dao ethnic, was leveling the land and transporting materials with her husband. Both she and her husband applied for jobs at a construction site near their home. "Finding a job in the countryside with a good income like this is not easy. We work seriously, according to the company's regulations, hoping to complete the job well so we can work long-term," Ms. Dieu said.
For many local workers like Ms. Man and Ms. Dieu, the Project is not only of economic significance but also a source of pride, an opportunity for them to directly contribute to the construction of a national-scale project right in their hometown.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hung - representative of Song Da 11 Joint Stock Company in the North, the construction unit, said: "Construction through Luc Yen's terrain is very complicated, many pole positions are on high hills, rocky mountains, and in the rainy season, vehicles are almost unable to access. Therefore, we take full advantage of favorable weather, mobilizing human resources to work day and night."
Currently, the unit has more than 200 workers, divided into 8 teams and 24 construction groups. Many teams have completed the foundations of 12 column positions, preparing to move on to the column erection and wire pulling phase. The goal is to complete the foundations, complete the column erection before July 15 and finish wire pulling before August 15.
"We have deployed "3 shifts, 4 shifts", which means working continuously without stopping, even on weekends. On rainy days, workers still wear raincoats to work, as long as safety is ensured. No one complains, because everyone understands the significance of the project" - Mr. Hung shared.
Recognizing the significance and importance of the Project, Luc Yen district has done a good job of propaganda, site clearance and closely coordinated with the construction unit to promptly handle problems.
Mr. Doan Ngoc Tuan - Vice Chairman of Luc Yen District People's Committee said: "We regularly inspect and grasp the construction situation, at the same time support and mobilize people to hand over the site, creating maximum favorable conditions for the construction unit. This is a national project, so the locality clearly defines its responsibility in accompanying the Project".
In Vinh Lac, Phan Thanh, Tan Linh communes, people not only supported the Project but also directly contributed their efforts, creating a vibrant competitive atmosphere along the entire route. In the late afternoon, the sun was fading, a group of workers were preparing to return to their camp after a day of tireless work. Strong figures, with rope marks still imprinted on their shoulders, road dust clinging to their clothes, left behind each towering pillar that had been formed.
Watching their silhouettes disappear behind the hillside, we suddenly remembered what Ms. Man said: "We built the electric poles not only with our strength but also with pride."
Those people, in the scorching summer sun or the torrential rains on the mountains, still work tirelessly and persistently, building a part of the energy veins for the country. They not only connect localities with power lines but also connect faith and hope in the sustainable development of the country.
