Binh Loc Commune (formerly Dien Binh Commune, Dien Khanh District) has long been famous for its delicious sticky star apple variety. This year, although the yield is not as high as last year, the Tet star apple crop still ensures a good income for the people here.
These days, in Nghiep Thanh village (Binh Loc commune), many gardens have been harvesting the Tet star apple crop. According to households that have grown star apples for many years, this year, the price of star apples is stable even though the output is not as high as last year. Having just sold the first crop of star apples before Tet, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan (Nghiep Thanh village) said that this season's star apples are quite fruitful, with some trees yielding 2-3 quintals. Traders come to the garden to buy star apples at a price of 25,000 - 30,000 VND/kg for good quality, and 20,000 VND/kg for poor quality.

Harvesting star apples in Binh Loc commune |
Ms. Le Thi Le's house (Luong Phuoc village, Binh Loc commune) is located next to the Cau Doi irrigation canal. She said that her family uses water from the irrigation canal to irrigate the garden. Last year, the milk fruit garden brought her family a good income. Although the quality of the milk fruit this year is not as good as last year because of fruit flies, and some fruits fell off due to frost, the milk fruit yield this year is still quite good, promising a rich source of income for the family in the coming days.
Dien Binh star apple, now Binh Loc, has long been famous. Local people mainly cultivate organically to protect the local star apple reputation. The reason why star apples here are fragrant, delicious, sweet, thick flesh, and thin skin is thanks to good varieties, benefiting from the annual alluvium of Suoi Dau River. Star apples here have two main varieties: purple star apples and white star apples, with only one crop per year, from before Tet to the fourth and fifth lunar months. All varieties are of the same quality, but white star apples are harvested earlier, usually before Tet. Star apples here have a brand, so traders buy them directly from the garden. Mr. Thai Xuan Non - Vice Chairman of Binh Loc Commune People's Committee said that the area of star apples before storm No. 12 in 2017 in the commune was up to 40 hectares. After the severe damage from the storm, up to now, although many households have tried to invest in restoration, only about half of the area is ready for harvest. Currently, the commune is mobilizing and encouraging people to restore the star apple garden, develop the area to orient the building of the star apple brand into a regional specialty product according to the province's orientation.
